9th Women and Ethno-Fashion Gathering of TURKSOY held at the Izmir Agora
The 9th Women and Ethno-Fashion Gathering, organised by TURKSOY, took place at the Izmir Agora Archaeological Site. The event showcased traditional garments of the Turkic World and examples of Anatolian weaving with a modern design approach.
Organised under the patronage of the Office of the Governor of Izmir and hosted by the Izmir Maturity Institute, the event was held with the support of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the Provincial Directorate of National Education in Izmir and the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism in Izmir. Dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the independence of Turkic Republics, the event took place on October 11th, 2026 at the Agora, located in the heart of Ancient Smyrna, Izmir.
The event was attended by the Governor of Izmir, Dr. Süleyman Elban, TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General Sayit Yusuf, the MP from Izmir Mrs. Ceyda Bölünmez Çankırı and the Commander of the Aegean Army, Lieutenant General Zorlu Topaloğlu, the Chief Public Prosecutor of Izmir, Mr. Ali Yeldan as well as university rectors and invited guests.
The event featured a fashion show introducing a collection of traditional bridal gowns from seven regions of Anatolia manufactured by the Izmir Maturity Institute and showcasing regional weaving and embellishment techniques.
At the fashion show, participants also had the opportunity to see works by designers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Türkiye, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and the Republics of of the Russian Federation: Bashkortostan, Sakha Yakutia, Tatarstan and Tyva. The designs, crafted from materials such as silk, satin, velvet and felt blended traditional patterns with contemporary shapes.
The 9th Women’s and Ethno-Fashion Gathering of TURKSOY which began in Ankara and went on in Ürgüp before ending in Izmir aimed at the promotion of our shared cultural heritage as well as at the exchange of experiences amongst designers of the Turkic World.
