2016 The Year of Yusuf Has Hacib
Yusuf Has Hacib, the great poet, scholar and
philosopher of Turkic Islamic history was commemorated in Istanbul on
the 1000th anniversary of his birthday.
The Year 2016 was declared as Year of Yusuf Has Hacib upon
unanimous decision of Ministers of Culture of the Turkic World at the 33rd
Term Meeting of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY held under the auspices of the
President of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev .
The opening ceremony of the Year of Yusuf Has Hajip organized in
cooperation of TURKSOY with the Ministry of Culture Information and
Tourism of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, the Embassy of the Republic of
Kyrgyzstan in Ankara and the Union of Municipalities of the Turkic World
took place on February 19th, 2016.
The event which took place at
the Kazlyceseme Cultural Center of the Municipality of Zeytinburnu gathered the Minister of Culture Tourism and
Information of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan Altynbek Maksutov, the Deputy Minister
of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey Huseyin Yayman, TURKSOY Secretary General Dusen
Kaseinov, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan to Turkey Prof. Dr. Ibrahim
Cunusov, the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality of Kocaeli Ibrahim
Karaosmanoglu and the Mayor of Zeytinburnu
Murat Aydın along with many other guests.
In the speech he
delivered at the opening ceremony of the event, TURKSOY Secretary General Dusen
Kaseinov stressed the fact that Yusuf
Has Hajib’s legacy is of great importance for the Turkic also said: “Yusuf Has
Hajip is the author of the famous “Kutadgu Bilig” which is the first
significant work of Turkic Islamic literature. He is a great philosopher not
only for the Turkic World but also for the World in general. We have declared
the year 2016 as Year of Yusuf Has Hajib to commemorate him and pay tribute to the
precious heritage he left behind”.
Mr. Kaseinov also said: “Yusuf Has Hajib, played a key role in the use of
Turkic language as a language of scholars. Thus, he is a cornerstone of the history of
Turkic culture” and announced that many cultural events will be carried out in
TURKSOY member countries throughout 2016 within the framework of the Year of Yusuf
Has Hajib.
The opening event also
featured a concert with colourful performances of famous artists from
Kyrgyzstan Kyrgyzbay Osmanov, Bakyt Shatenov and Omurzak Kayipov as well as the Ak-Maral State
Dance Ensemble and the Ordo Sahna Music
Ensemble.
WHO IS YUSUF HAS HAJIP?
The great author and philosopher who was born in the city of Balasagun
located in the Kara Khanid Khanate in 1016, wrote the political treatise
"Kutadgu Bilig" between 1069-1070. This work which he
qualified as "knowledge which is source of happiness" is now a
cornerstone of Turkic-Islamıc history and culture.
Yusuf Has Hajip who said ‘’Look, man was born, and died, but his
words remain. Man himself has gone, his name remains. Oh ruler, Oh savant, if
you want eternal life, thy work and thy words shall be good.’’ described the
ideal characteristics of man and acted as a guide for future generations.
