Prof. Dr. Fırat Purtaş was born in Kahramanmaraş in 1974 where he went to primary and secondary school. In 1994, he graduated from the Department of International Relations of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of the Gazi University. In 1995 he started working as an assistant within the afore-mentioned department. After completing his post-graduate studies at the Faculty of International Relations of the State University of St Petersburg in the Russian Federation in 2000, he obtained his PhD Degree from the Institute of Social Sciences of the Gazi University in 2004. In 2008 he was promoted to Associate Professor. Besides his activity as a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of the Gazi University, he has been assuming the function of Deputy Secretary General of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) since April 28th, 2008. His academic research activities are mostly focused on the history of politics of the Russian Federation and Turkic Republics. He speaks Turkish, English and Russian.
