Nizami Ganjavi was commemorated with various events in Istanbul
On the 880th anniversary of his birthday, Nizami Ganjavi, the famous author of Azerbaijan was commemorated with various events held in Istanbul.
The painting exhibition and theater performance dedicated to the famous poet and philosopher Nizami Ganjavi was organized in cooperation of TURKSOY with the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Istanbul Başkonsolosluğu, the Municipality of Sarıyer in Istanbul and the Vision Theater of Azerbaijan “Harı Bülbül” and took place at the Boğaziçi Center for Culture and Art.
In the opening speech he delivered at the event, the Deputy Secretary General of TURKSOY Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilal Çakıcı said that in line with its commitment to introduce the legacy of illustrious personalities of the Turkic World to young generations, TURKSOY launched its activities to promote Nizami Ganjavi and his work upon declaration of the year 2021 as Year of Nizami Ganjavi by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. Deputy Secretary General Çakıcı further said that within this framework, the first commemorative event of TURKSOY dedicated to Ganjavi was held in Ankara in the presence of the Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan H. E. Mr. Anar Kerimov.
Deputy Secretary General Çakıcı who further said: “Nizami who is a great poet and who became world famous with his work as the first author of “Hamsa” has not only influenced the literature of Azerbaijan and the Turkic World but also had a strong impact on literature worldwide. His works made unique contributions to the development of literature and miniatures as well of ornamental and fine arts, music, cinema, theater, balet and painting.” added that: “TURKSOY has published an art album dedicated to Nizami and entitled “Reading Nizami Ganjavi” which introduces Nizami to the world in English language. This album was presented along with an exhibition in Baku, Bishkek and Nursultan and most recently in Vienna a week ago.”
Mr. Çakıcı further said that most paintings to be seen in this exhibition were made by the famous painter from Azerbaijan Mikhail Abdullayev whose 100th birthday anniversary was commemorated five days ago.
The Consul General of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Istanbul Mrs. Nermine Mustafayeva who also delivered a speech at the event said that works written by this world famous poet of Azerbaijan centuries ago are still up-to-date today and that they convey major messages to humanity. Mrs. Mustafayeva who further said that it is everyone’s duty to introduce such great poets and authors to young generations added that this will be thr first time that Ganjavi’s work “Kerpiçkesen” will be staged as a theater play by the “Harı Bülbül” Vision Theater of Azerbaijan.
The Deputy Mayor of Sarıyer Mr. Hüseyin Coşkun who also took the floor at the event touched upon the importance of Nizami Ganjavi and expressed his pleasure to be hosting this event bringing together the culture and art of Azerbaijan and Turkey.
The Hari Bulbul Press Award of TURKSOY 2020 was handed over to its winners
Within the framework of the event, the Hari Bulbul Press Award of TURKSOY 2020 was handed over to journalists and members of the press media of Turkey. In 2020, the Press Award of TURKSOY which has been handed over to journalists and members of the press media since 2009 in recognition of their contribution to the promotion of news on culture and art of Turkic peoples was dedicated to the liberation of territories of Azerbaijan from their occupation by Armenian forces for 30 years. Hence, in recognition of their contribution to the broadcasting of the war of liberation of Azerbaijan which lasted 44 days as well as of what really happened in Karabakh, TURKSOY decided to hand over this award to journalists of the Turkic World among which 36 journalists from 7 countries had qualified to receive it.
This year, the Hari Bulbul Press Award of TURKSOY was handed over to 17 journalists in a ceremony and those of them who could not attend the ceremony had received their award in their own respective countries. Journalists and members of the press media who were handed over the Hari Bulbul Press Award of TURKSOY 2020 by the Deputy Secretary General of the organization Mr. Çakıcı were Mr. Çetiner Çetin, the Director of International News of Habertürk, the emcee of the NTV Channel Mr. Osman Girgin (former correspondent of the Haber Global Channel), the photo reporter of the Sabah Newspaper Mr. Uğur Yıldırım and the reporter of the TV 100 channel Mr. Ali Burak Ersemiz.
Performance of the theater play “The Story of the Man Cutting Mudbricks”
The opening of the exhibition and the handover ceremony of press awards were followed by the premiere performance of the theater play “The Story of the Man Cutting Mudbricks” from Nizami Ganjavi’s work “The Treasure of Secrets” in his “Hamsa”. This was the first time the play staged by the “Harı Bulbul” Vision Theater of Azerbaijan was performed in Turkey.
