Events dedicated to the commemoration of Bolot Shamshiyev

On the 80th anniversary of his birthday, the famous Kyrgyz film director Bolot Shamshiyev was commemorated with exhibitions and films in Ankara.

Events held between December 20th-22nd, 2021  gathered representatives of the art of cinema of Kyrgyzstan along with many guests and were organized in cooperation of TURKSOY with the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Ankara and the "Yerli Düşünce" Association.

Films directed by Bolot Shamshiyev which were displayed within the framework of commemorative events hosted by the Büyülü Fener Cinema of Ankara and the Gazi University  were, Poppies of Issyk Kul, Early Cranes and The White Ship. Prior to the film projection a photography exhibition and a documentary on the life and work of the artist were shown.

Within the framework of the events, the Deputy Secretary General of TURKSOY, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilal Çakıcı handed over plaquettes dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birthday of Bolot Shamshiyev to the Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to Ankara H. E.  Kybanychbek Omuraliyev as well as to Kyrgyz cinema artists Ayturgan Temirova, Murat Mambetov and Aysuluu Subanliyeva.

-The Deputy Secretary General of TURKSOY, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilal Çakıcı: “We are further commemorating our ancestors and their eternal legacy.”

In the speech he delivered at the closing event hosted by the Gazi University and held on December  22nd, 2021, the Deputy Secretary General of TURKSOY, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilal Çakıcı said: “Artists live forever through the legacy they left behind and  Bolot Shamshiyev whose works will show the way to new generations will be commemorated with great respect and love for many years”  and added: “On the 75th anniversary of his birthday, we had handed over the Honour Medal of TURKSOY to Bolot Shamshiyev in recognition of his contribution to the art of Kyrgyz cinema. Now, we are commemorating him on the 80th anniversary of the birthday. We pay tribute to the memory of our ancestors who live on through the precious legacy they left behind. Hence, we will hopefully continue commemorating him and introducing his legacy to future generations for many years ahead. Let me also express my gratitude to the Gazi University, the Büyülü Fener Cinema and the  Yerli Düşünce Association for their strong contribution to the organization of this event in cooperation with  TURKSOY.”

-Ambassador Omuraliyev: “Bolot Shamshiyev laid the foundatiolns of Kyrgyz cinema.”

The Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to Ankara, H. E. Kybanychbek Omuraliyev who also said a few words at the event stressed that in comparison to other fields of  art such as literature and music, the art of cinema evolved relatively late in the Kyrgyz Republic  and added: “Artists like Bolot Shamshiyev brought its fame to  the Kyrgyz art of cinema worldwide. The film which we will be watching today is based on Chingis Aitmatov’s novel “The White Ship”. It is the masterpiece of  Bolot Shamshiyev. This film which brough many awards of international festivals to Shamshiyev is an excellent illustration of  the relation between man and nature. It is a great pleasure for me to be commemorating this great film director in Turkey as he is the one who laid the foundation of the art of Kyrgyz cinema.”

-Chief Advisor Yalçın Topçu: “We reach out to the future thanks to art and artists.”

The Chief Advisor to the President of the Republic of Turkey Mr. Yalçın Topçu who was one of the hosts of the event as Honorary Chairman of the Yerli Düşünce Association said: “We reach out to the future thanks to art and artists. Each and everyone of us has a glorious past and legendary history. We are the chidren of a civilization of order and mercy. Our young generation will have to assume a major mission. I think it is very important to introduce Bolot Shamshiyev to his kindred people in  Turkey. Such events and activities will help us better understand eachother. Hence, I should like to congratulate TURKSOY for having organized such an event and I look forward to the continuation of such activities it will be carrying out in the future.”
