The famous author of Azerbaijan Nizami Ganjavi was commemorated in Austria
The Art Album of TURKSOY entitled “Reading Nizami Ganjavi” was presented in the Cultural Center of Azerbaijan in Vienna along with an exhibition on Ganjavi’s life and work.
The famous poet and philosopher of Azerbaijan who lived in the 12th century and reached out to the world with his works was commemorated in an event which took place on December 17th, 2021 in the Cultural Center of Azerbaijan in Vienna and was dedicated to the 880th anniversary of his birthday.
Along with the presentation of the Art Album of TURKSOY entitled “Reading Nizami Ganjavi” and featuring paintings of artists of the Turkic World inspired by Nizami’s poems an exhibition on Nizami Ganjavi’s life and work was inaugurated.
The event hosed by TURKSOY Secretary General Dusen Kasseinov and the Director of the Cultural Center of Azerbaijan Leyla Gasımova took place in the presence of a limited number of participants due to health and safety regulations imposed to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic and gathered representatives of embassies of TURKSOY member countries, artists and intellectuals of Austria along with representatives of the diaspora of Azerbaijan as well as other guests.
In the speech he delivered following the opening of the exhibition, Secretary General Kasseinov said that its is the duty of us all to do whatever it takes to keep the legacy of Nizami and his work alive and that TURKSOY is carrying out its activities accordingly. Ambassador Kasseinov further added that the first commemorative event held outside Azerbaijan and dedicated to the 880th anniversary of the birthday of Ganjavi held in TURKSOY Headquarters in Ankara in the presence of a delegation from the republic of Azerbaijan headed by its Minister of Culture Anar Kerimov.
Secretary General Kasseinov said: “Nizami is a poet whose works and philosophy reached out far beyond the borders of Azerbaijan and influenced not only Turkic literature but also world literature in general. With his unique works which stand as a perfect symbol of the art of poetry and rich folk literature traditions, Nizami influenced the development of literature and art; his books made strong contributions to the art of literature, miniatures as well as various types of fine and onamental arts. Besides, Nizami’s works are also a strong source of inspiration as to music, cinema, theater, ballet and painting.”
Secretary General Kasseinov who also presented the Art Album of TURKSOY entitled “Reading Nizami Ganjavi” further said that paintings exhibited today in the Cultural Center of Azerbaijan in Vienna feature works by painters of the Turkic World as well as by the famous painter of Azerbaijan Mikhail Mikayıl Abdullayev whose 100th birthday anniversary was commemorated on December 19th, 2021.
The Director of the Cultural Center of Azerbaijan Leyla Gasımova who also delivered a speech at the event touched upon the precious heritage left behind by Nizami Ganjavi in the field of poetry and literature and stressed the importance of Ganjavi in Azerbaijani and world literature.
The presentation meeting ended with a short concert featuring works composed on Nizami’s poems and performed by young artists of the Youth Chamber Orchestra of TURKSOY Yerassyl Khamit and Amina Mashkeyeva along with the “Gorgut Mugam Ensemble” of Azerbajan.
