Media Forum of the Turkic Council held in Istanbul under the motto “A Deep Rooted Past, A Strong Future”

The Media Forum of the Turkic Council took place in Istanbul under the motto “A Deep Rooted Past, A Strong Future”.

The forum hosted by the Directorate of Communications of the Republic of Turkey and the Secretariat of the Turkic Council gathered the Director of Communications of the Office of the President of the Republic of Turkey Prof. Fahrettin Altun, the Deputy President and Head of the Department of Foreign Policies of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Hikmet Hajiyev, the Secretary General of the Turkic Council Mr. Baghdad Amreyev, the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Mr. Ersin Tatar, the Deputy Secretary General of TURKSOY  Mr. Bilal Çakıcı Kazakistan and high-level representatives of media institutions of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Hungary and Turkmenistan. The forum which brought together more than 500 guests was also attended by senior representatives of the media, scholars, social media influencers and students from Member States of the Turkic Council  and Member States of the Turkic Council with an observer status.

The forum also featured  a digital exhibition featuring photographs from the archive of TURKSOY dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of the independence  of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, the Deputy Secretary General of  TURKSOY Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilal Çakıcı handed over a special souvenir dedicated the 30th Anniversary of the independence  of Turkic republics to the Director of Communications of the Office of the President of the Republic of Turkey.

The opening session of the forum featured a video message of the President of the Republic of Turkey H. E. Mr.  Recep Tayyip Erdoğan who stressed the importance of independence in the field of media and communication called upon the Turkic World to share experiences in this regard while joining its forces and taking initiatives  to explore the most efficient ways to use its existing potential.

In the speech he delivered at the opening session of the forum, the Secretary General of the Turkic Council Mr. Baghdad Amreyev said that the cooperation within the Turkic Council has entered a new era in the last two years and that the organization has reached concrete achivements in the fields of politics and economy  amongst others, hence turning into the joint cooperation mechanism, common voice and platform of the Turkic World.

The Director of Communications of the Office of the President of the Republic of Turkey Prof. Fahrettin Altun who also said a few words at the forum stressed the important role played by  the media when it comes to fostering cooperation in the Turkic World and combatting misinformation. The Director of Communications  Prof. Altun further said that the sense of unity and solidarity among Turkic speaking countries must also be strengthened, and touched upon the importance of a deeper cooperation in practical terms in this respect.

The Deputy President of the Republic of Azerbaijan H. E. Hikmet Hajiyev said that throughout the war of liberation of Karabakh which lasted 44 days, member states of the Turkic Council have strongly supported the people of Azerbaijan especially when it comes to combatting misinformation through false media campaigns. H. E. Hikmet Hajiyev who also asserted the determination of Azerbaijan to rebuild Karabakh and help it regain its prestige as the center of Turkic Islamic civilization, stressed his belief in the fact that kindred  Turkic states will be supporting Azerbaijan in this process.

In the speech he delivered at the forum, the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus H. E.  Ersin Tatar stressed the important role played by the Media Forum in terms of the unity and solidarity of the Turkic World and touched upon the experience of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in combatting media abuses.
 
The Plenary Session was followed by various sessions which gathered experts throughout the day.  On the second day of the forum, various workshops were held, gathering media professionals and young participants. The afore-mentioned workshops which took place under the motto "The Future of the Turkic World: The New Ulug Beys, Ali Shir Nevais, Akhmet Yassawis, Nezami Ganjavis" of the Turkic World focused on various issues such as "science", "culture and art ", "media", "sports", "international relations " and "the new media" in the Turkic World. While the workshop on international relations was chaired by the Director of the News Academy of the Anadolu  Agency (AA) Dr. Bora Bayraktar, the workshop on science was chaired by the Member of the Board of Management of the T3 Foundation Mr. Alper Güzel, the workshop on the media was chaired by the Director of Foreign Relations and Institutional Communication of the TRT Avaz Channel Mrs. Gökçen Oğan, the workshop on sports was chaired by the Member of the Board of Management of the World Ethnosports Confederation Mustafa Eröğüt, the workshop on the new media was chaired by the Coordinator of Foreign Relations and Foreign News of the  NTV Channel Mr. Ahmet Yeşiltepe and the workshop on culture and art was chaired by  the author Halil Ibrahim Izgi.
