Wonderful Opening Ceremony for Khiva, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2020

The opening event of the  Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2020 declared by  TURKSOY took place with the contribution of more than 400 artists who gave a wonderful performance.

Events hosted by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov also featured a photography exhibition reflecting the unity and solidarity among Turkic peoples as well as a special fashion show featuring traditional garments of Uzbekistan.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan who delivered the opening speech at of the Gala Concert held in the historical Ichan Kale stressed that the Turkic World came together in Khiva thanks to TURKSOY and expressed his gratitude to TURKSOY as well as to members of its  Permanent Council who deemed the city of Khiva worth of the title of Cultural Capital of the Turkic World. Deputy Prime Minister Abdukhakimov further said: “We are happy to welcome more than 500 guests here today. It is a great source of pride for us to bear this title and  host our kindred peoples in the city of Khiva.” 

TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General Bilal Çakıcı: “The Cultural Capital of the Turkic World brings us together with all our kindred peoples of the Turkic World.”

The Deputy Secretary General of TURKSOY, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilal Çakıcı who also said a few words at the opening of the Gala Concert made the following statement: The Cultural Capital of the Turkic World is always a very joyful event. I am very happy to be here together with all of you in Khiva this ancient city of Central Asia and pearl of Uzbekistan which has successfully preserved  the historical architecture and culture left behind by our ancestors. The opening and closing events of our Cultural Capitals are precious events which bring together not only  our kindred peoples of the Turkic World  but also Turkic peoples living in other countries. At the same time these events are also precious occasions for us to introduce our rich cultural heritage to the world with colourful music and dance performances. As a matter of fact, Nevruz celebrations, gatherings of painters, photographers and poets, literature congresses and concerts as well as many other artistic events we organize in our cultural capitals are all a precious contribution to the preservation and promotion of the rich cultural heritage of Turkic peoples. Besides, they also contribute to the rapprochement among our artist, scholars and intellectuals by giving them the opportunity tos hare their experiences. Above all, they do of course contribute to the fostering of our mutual cooperation as well as to the strengthening of ties of friendship and brotherhood among our peoples and kindred communities.” 

The Deputy Director General of UNESCO Gabriella Ramos: “Khiva is one of the most important cities in the history of humanity.”

The Deputy Director General of UNESCO Gabriella Ramos who greeted the audience prior to the Gala Concert said: “We are extremely happy about the cooperation between UNESCO and TURKSOY which promotes Turkic culture in a wonderful way. We will be doing our very best to further deepen our cooperation. The city of Khiva is one of the most important cities in terms of the history of humanity. I am very happy to be attending this event.”

The opening speeches were followed by a colourful show in which artists of the Turkic World  performed colourful songs and dances from Uzbekistan as well as from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Hungary. Events held throughout the day  took place in the presence of the Minister of Culture Information Sports and Youth of Kyrgyzstan Kayrat Imanaliyev, the Chairman of the Turkic Academy Darhan Kydyrali,  the Deputy President of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Comnmunities Sayit Yusuf and the Coordinator of the TRT AVAZ channel Sedat Sağırkaya as well as representatives of the Turkish Kyrgyz University of Manas, the International Kazak Turkish University named after Khoja Akhmet Yassawi and other organizations.

Ministers of Culture of TURKSOY member countries came together in Khiva

Ministers of Culture of the TURKSOY Member Countries came together at the 38th Term Meeting of the Permanent Council of  TURKSOY. Members of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY who met in  the Nurullaboy Palace in Khiva on September 16th, 2021 discussed future activities of TURKSOY as well as other issues such as the selection of the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2022 and of illustrious personalities of the Turkic World to be commemorated throughout that year. 

The meeting gathered the Ministers of Culture of TURKSOY member countries as well as representatives of  the Turkic Council, the Turkic Academy, TURK-PA, the Presidency of Turks Abroad and Kindred Communities, the TRT channel, the Turkish Kyrgyz University of Manas, the International Kazak Turkish University named after Khoja Akhmet Yassawi  and representatives of other organizations.
