Activities of TURKSOY break new ground and reach out to Africa

Within the framework of the Year of Yunus Emre and  Turkic Language 2021, a delegation of TURKSOY headed by its Secretary General, Amnbassador Kasseinov went on an official visit to Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the latter as well as with the African Union.

The first meeting held within the framework of the above-mentioned official visit gathered  Secretary General Kasseinov  and the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Kinshasa  H. E. Mehmet Munis Dirik. In the meeting, Secretary General Kasseinov touched upon TURKSOY's intention to foster its ties with the region  and handed over a publication of TURKSOY especially dedicated to the Year of Yunus Emre and Turkic Language 2021 to him.

The minister of Culture Art and Heritage of the Democratic Republic of Congo H. E.  Catherine Kathungu Furaha: “This MoU opens up  whole new perspectives for us in the fields of culture, art and academic research.”

The delegation of  TURKSOY then met with the Minister of  Culture Art and Heritage of the Democratic Republic of Congo H. E.  Catherine Kathungu Furaha. During this meeting, both parties discussed issues pertaining to the above-mentioned MoU to be signed between   TURKSOY and the Ministry of  Culture Art and Heritage of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In the press conference whe gave following her meeting with Secretary General Kasseinov,  Minister  Catherine Kathungu Furaha expressed her happiness as to the signature of this MoU which will open up new perspectives  for young people, artistes and scholars of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Minister Furaha added:  “Together, we will make sure that culture becomes a priority on  our agenda. Indeed, this will open up whole new perspectives for us in the fields of culture, art and academic research. I am convinced that thanks to our mutual cooperation, our peoples will get acquainted with eachother and come closer together.” Secretary General  Kasseinov stressed that  it will be a pleasure for  TURKSOY to welcome artistes and scholars of  of Africa  among  participants of events and activities carried out by TURKSOY and expressed his gratitude to the Minister for her kind hospitality.

First Event of  TURKSOY in Africa: Exhibition on  Yunus Emre, the Pionneer of the Civilization of Love

On June  29th, 2021, both parties signed the MoU between TURKSOY and the Ministry of Culture Arts and Heritage of  the Democratic Republic of Congo. The signature ceremony was followed by the opening of the exhibition entitled “Yunus Emre, The Pioneer of the Civilization of Love” held within the framework of the Year of Turkic Language and Yunus Emre 2021 at the National Museum of the  Democratic Republic of Congo. The exhibition entered history as being the first exhibition of TURKSOY  as well as the first event dedicated to  Yunus Emre to be held on the African continent. The exhibition featuring works of art of the Institute of Art and Crafts of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the  Anatolian University of Eskisehir was strongly appreciated by its visitors.

Memorandum of Understanding to be signed between  TURKSOY and the African Union

The official visit of the delegation of TURKSOY will go on with the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between  TURKSOY and the African Union  which will take place during a ceremony hosted by the  H. E.  Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, President of the  African Union and of the  Democratic Republic of Congo.
