Khiva declared Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2020
The 37th Term Meeting of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY was held in the city of Osh in Kyrgyzstan where ministers of culture of TURKSOY member countries and representatives of international organizations made major decisions on cultural and artistic activities of the Turkic World to be carried in 2020.
The Term Meeting of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY which is its highest decision making body took place on November 30th, 2019 and gathered the Minister of Culture Information and Tourism of Kyrgyzstan Azamat Jamankulov, the Mayor of Osh Taalaybek Sarybashov, TURKSOY Secretary General Dusen Kasseinov, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey Nadir Alp Aslan, the Deputy Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan Rafik Bayramov, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan Nurkisa Dauyeshov, the Deputy Minister of Culture of Uzbekistan Kamola Akilova and the Deputy Minister of Culture of Turkmenistan Gurbanmurad Myradaliev along with delegations of TURKSOY member countries, Heads of international organizations and guests.
One of the most important issues on the agenda of the meeting was the selection of the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2020.
This prestigious title which had been born by the city of Astana in 2012 for the first time following the initative taken by TURKSOY in 2010 was awarded to the city of Khiva in Uzbekistan for the year 2020 upon unanimous decision of the Permanent Council of Ministers of Culture of Turkic Speaking Countries.
Permanent Council Members who supported the suggestion of the Ministery of Culture of Uzbekistan selected the city of Khiva as Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2020.
Hence, the city of Khiva will be hosting various cultural and artistic events gathering the Turkic World throughout the year 2020.
