Third International Issyk Kul Forum
The Third Issyk Kul Forum dedicated to Chingis Aitmatov was organized in Kyrgyzstan by TURKSOY within the framework of its activities dedicated to the commemoration of the legendary author.
The opening ceremony of the forum held in Bishkek under the auspices of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov gathered TURKSOY Secretary General Ambassador Dusen Kasseinov along with 155 scholars from 25 countries. The forum held in the congress center located in the Presidential Residence started with a documentary on the life and work of Aitmatov and went on with presentations on the author's life, his struggle, works, memoires and contributiopn to world culture and literature.
In the opening speech he delivered at the forum, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Jeenbekov said: "The Kyrgyz people is proud of its contribution to world culture and literature with its author Chingis Aitmatov and its Manas Legend. President Jeenbekov reminded of the fact that the Issyk Kul Forum was held for the first time 32 years ago and gathered world famous intellectuals and scholars who came together to discuss urgent issues and future risks of that time: "At that time, intellectuals and scholars had already proven that the solution to problems faced cannot be found in economics, technology or politics but must be reached through the change in people's awareness."
President Jeenbekov added that Aitmatov mainly dealt with the lifestyle of the Kyrgyz people and introduced its culture and traditions to the world through literature.
In the speech he delivered at the event, TURKSOY Secretary General Ambassador Dusen Kasseinov stressed that Aitmatov is a legendary author not only of Kyrgyz literature but of the literature of the Turkic World in general. Ambassador Kasseinov further said that Aitmatov is a universal author who dealt with universal issues faced by all peoples and societies of the world.
Ambassador Kasseinov who also said that Aitmatov led an exemplary life added that: "Anyone who reads Aitmatov's works becomes part of this world because he deals with universal values such as brotherhood, love, patriotism, peace, heroism, happiness and environmental issues."
Ambassador Kasseinov who also said that the revival of this forum is particularly meaningful stressed his belief in the fact that it will bring about new solutions to issues faced in the world in terms of justice and equity as we are going through times of rapid transformation and added that: "The Issyk Kul Forum is the legacy left behind by Aitmatov for the entire world."
