Festival of "Kurmangazy and the Music of the Great Steppe" in Almaty

The festival of traditional music  "Kurmangazy and the Music of the Great Steppe" dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the famous Kazak composer Kurmangazy   Sagyrbaiulu took place in Almaty between September 30th-October 2nd, 2018.

The festival which has become one of the highlights of cultural and artistic events held in Almaty  featured the "Dina Orchestra of Folk Instruments", the “Tattimbet Orchestra of Folk Instruments”, the “Kurmangazy Orchestra of Folk Instruments”and  the  “Otrar Sazy Orchestra of Folk Instruments” from Kazakhstan along with the "Bishkek Orchestra of Folk Instruments" from Kyrgyzstan and the "Uzbek State Orchestra of Folk Instruments” as well as famous artists from various countries and regions of the Turkic World performing traditional music.

The opening speeches of the festival were delivered by the Minister of Culture and Sports of  Kazakhstan Mr. Arstanbek Muhamediulu, the Representative of Kazakhstan to TURKSOY Mr. Askar Turganbayev and the Director of the Kurmangazy Orchestra Nurgisa Daveshov.

In the speech he delivered,  the Representative of Kazakhstan to TURKSOY Mr. Askar Turganbayev said that  Kurmangazy was not only a remarkable composer  but also one of the pioneers of the national awakening and independence movement of the Kazak people and that his music reflects this spirit of struggle  and independence. Mr. Turganbayev concluded his speech stressing that this great poet of Kazakhstan and his legacy are an essential component of the rich cultural heritage of the Turkic World.

At the end of the event which raised great interest and enthusiasm among participants, Mr.  Turganbayev extended medals and plaquettes of TURKSOY to artists of the Kurmangazy Orchestra of Folk Instruments on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the birthday of Kurmangazy on behalf of TURKSOY Secretary General  Dusen Kasseinov.
