Magjan Jumabayev was commemorated in Azerbaijan
Within the framework of the Year of Magjan Jumabayev 2018 declared by TURKSOY, the great Kazak poet who was also one of the pioneers of the Alas movement was commemorated with wonderful events held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
In cooperation of the State Pedagogical University of Azerbaijan with TURKSOY a commemorative meeting was held in the afore-mentioned university on September 27th, 2018 to pay tribute to the great Kazak poet on the 125th anniversary of his birthday. Within the framework of the evend, participants first visited the Department of TURKSOY. Later on, the Rector of the University Prof. Dr. Cafer Ceferov greeted the audience which gathered in the Haydar Aliyev Hall of the university. In the speech he delivered, Prof. Dr. Ceferov gave a brief introduction on this illustrious poet of the Kazak people whose life was rather short and difficult and and said that Jumabayev's life featured similarities with that of the great poet of the people of Azerbaijan Ahmet Cevad.
TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General Prof. Dr. Fırat Purtaş who also delivered a speech at the event said that various events and activities are held in the Turkic World within the framework of the of Magjan Jumabayev 2018 declared by TURKSOY. Prof. Dr. Purtaş further stressed the fact that this event held together with students and teachers in the university where a Department of TURKSOY was inaugurated last year is one of the important steps forward in the promotion of Magjan Jumabayev, the great author of the Kazak people in Azerbaijan.
Professor Ramiz Asker from the State University of Baku who was another keynote speaker of the event touched upon the life and work of Magjan and extended his gratitude to TURKSOY for the publication of his translation of Magjan's poems into Azerbaijani Turkic language. Other keynote speakers who presented papers on Magjan's life and work were the Deputy Governor of the Province of Northern Kazakhstan Kemel Ospanov and Prof. Zarkın Tarşıbay from the State University of Northern Kazakhstan.
The keynote speeches were followed by a reading of Magjan's poems in Kazak and Azerbaijani Turkic language.
At the end of the event, Prof. Dr. Fırat Purtaş extended his gratitude to the Rector of the university Prof. Dr. Cafer Caferov and extended a souvenir plate of TURKSOY dedicated to Magjan Jumabayev to him. Representatives of Kazakhstan offered a book of two volumes featuring Magjan's works to the university.

In cooperation of the National Library of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan with TURKSOY, a meeting to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the birthday of the legendary Kazak poet Magjan Jumabayev was held in the National Library of Azerbaijan which celebrated its 95th anniversary on September 28th, 2018.
The Director of the National Library of Azerbaijan Prof. Dr. Kerim Tahirov who delivered the opening speech of the meeting said that the cooperation between the National Library of Azerbaijan and TURKSOY is growing stronger every day and stressed the importance of this event for the Turkic World as it introduces the great author and poet of the Kazak people Magjan Cumabay to the people of Azerbaijan.
In the speech he delivered, the First Deputy Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan Vagif Aliyev extended his gratitude to TURKSOY for the declaration of the year 2018 as Year of Magjan Jumabayev as well as for the publication of the poet's work in various languages and the organization of this commemorative event. TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General Prof. Dr. Fırat Purtaş extended his gratitude to the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan and the National Library of Azerbaijan for hosting this high-level event and thanked Prof. Dr. Ramiz Asker for the translation of Magjan's poems into Azerbaijani Turkic language.
The event went on with presentations by the Director of the Ataturk Center of Azerbaijan Ord. Prof. Dr. Nizami Caferov, the Secretary of the Authors' UNion of Azerbaijan Reşad Mecid, Prof. Dr. Ramiz Asker from the Baku State University, the Deputy Governor of the Province of Northern Kazakhstan Kemel Ospanov and Prof. Zarkın Tarşıbay from the State University of Northern Kazakhstan. who shared their views on Magjan's life and work and presented the books published thereon.
At the end of the event, Prof. Dr. Fırat Purtaş extended the souvenir plate of TURKSOY dedicated to Magjan Jumabayev to the Director of the National Library of Azerbaijan Prof. Dr. Kerim Tahirov.
