Unforgettable moments at the 21st Opera Days of TURKSOY in Kyrenea
The 21st Opera Days of TURKSOY dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of the International Organization of Turkic Culture TURKSOY took place in the Bellapais Monastery of Kyrenea on September 20th, 2018.
The Opera Days of TURKSOY which have been held since 1994 with the contribution of artists of the Turkic World took place in the Bellapais Monastery and gathered the Deputy Secretaryt General of TURKSOY Prof. Dr. Fırat Purtaş, the Minister of Education and Culture of the TRNC Cemal Gürsel Özyiğit, the Deputy President of the Grand National Assembly of the TRNC Zorlu Töre, the Director of the Department of Culture Şehbal Hamzaoğulları and several prototcol members along with a large audience of amateurs of art. The concert hosted by the Minister of Education and Culture of the TRNC Cemal Gürsel Özyiğit, featured performances of 8 artists from 6 countries of the Turkic World.
Fırat Purtaş: “Opera Days of TURKSOY are almost the same age as TURKSOY”
In the speech he delivered prior to the concert, TURKSY Deputy Secretary General Prof. Dr. Fırat Purtaş stressed the fact that the Opera Days of TURKSOY are almost the same age as TURKSOY itself which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Mr. Purtaş who expressed that this is a great source of pride for TURKSOY added that such activities are in line with the mission of TURKSOY which is to create opportunities of cultural and artistic exchange and further said that it is also thanks to the significant contribution and support of ministries of the Department of Culture of the TRNC that the Opera Days of TURKSOY have been and are still carried out as oneits longstanding traditional events. Mr. Purtaş concluded his speech extending his gratitude to the Minister of National Education and Culture of the TRNC Mr. Cemal Gürsel Özyiğit who hosted the event, to the Director of the Department of Culture Şehbal Hamzaoğulları and to artists who took the scene at the event as well as to all those who contributed to it.

The Minister of National Education and Culture of the TRNC Mr. Cemal Gürsel Özyiğit who took the floor after Mr. Purtaş and said that the world is full of peoples from different ethnic origins and religious beliefs, speaking different languages and having different opinions and cultures added that the Turkic peoples are one of these peoples. Minister Özyiğit also stressed that Turkic peoples are present on a very vast territory of the world and that as a result thereof, they have all evolved in different directions and created a large variety of cultures. Minister Özyiğit also reminded of the fact that despite this diversification, Turkic peoples have succeeded in preserving their common culture. Mr. Özyiğit who also said that TURKSOY makes a great contributiopn to the preservation of the culture and art of the Turkic World through events and activities it carries out congratulated TURKSOY on the occasion of its 25th anniversary. Minister Özyiğit who also said that Opera Days of TURKSOY are a major artistic event which is highly praised as such in the TRNC extended his gratitude to TURKSOY as well as to the Director of the Department of Culture of the TRNC and to staff members along with all artists who are going to take the scene in this event.
The speeches were followed by a ceremony in which the Minister of National Education and Culture of the TRNC Mr. Gürsel Özyiğit extended a plaquette to TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General Prof. Dr. Fırat Purtaş on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of TURKSOY. In turn, Prof. Dr. Purtaş extended a souvenir plate of dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of TURKSOY to Mr. Özyiğit.
Wonderful melodies performed in Bellapais
The first performance of the 21st Opera Days of TURKSOY was that of Ms. Nazym Sagyntay, the soloist of the Astana Opera of Kazakhstan who sang the aria "Ave Maria" by the Italian composer Giulio Romolo Caccini.
The following performances were Belcore’s aria from Gaetano Donizetti’s opera “L’elisir d’amore” by the barytone Tuğrul Enver Töre, state artist of the State Opera and Ballet of Samsun who represented the TRNC, and Rosina's aria from Gioacchino Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia" by the soprano Sermin Dikmen Töre. The concert also featured a duet featuring Tuğrul Enver Töre and Sermin Dikmen Töre who performed the song by Kamran Aziz entitled “Al Yemeni Mor Yemeni".
Soloists of the concert accompanied by the pianist Iulia Babich from Kyrgyzstan were, the Soprano Nazym Sagyntay from Kazakhstan, the Tenor of the Opera of the Governorate of the Province of Turkistan Yerlan Zhandarbay, the Soprano and soloist of the State Opera of Kyrgyzstan Aziza Mamatnazar, the soloist and soprano of the Musical Comedy Theater of Azerbaijan Eleonora Mustafayeva and the soprano Leyla Gurtueva from Kabardino-Balkaria (RF) who all performed world classics along with arias from operas by composers of their respective countries.
The concert ended with standing ovations of the audience for the wonderful performance of the famous "Brindisi" aria from G. Verdi's opera “La Traviata” by the contributing artists who took the scene all together.
