Mr. Kasseinov attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the Museum of Contemporary Arts of the TRNC

The groundbreaking ceremony of the Museum of Contemporary Arts of the Near East University (NEU), aiming at the international promotion of artistic creativity and cultural identity took place with the contribution of the President of the TRNC Mustafa Akıncı, TURKSOY Secretary General Dusen Kasseinov  and othere officials.

The ceremony gathered the President of the TRNC Mustafa Akıncı, TURKSOY Secretary General Prof. Dusen Kasseinov, the Prime Minister of the TRNC Tufan Erhurman, the Minister of National Education and Culture Cemal Özyiğit, the Minister of Tourism and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu, the Deputy President of the National  Assembly Zorlu Töre, some MPs, the Founding Rector of the NEU Dr. Suat Gunsel, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Assoc. Prof. Dr.  Irfan Suat Gunsel and the Rector of the NEU Prof. Dr. Umit Hassan along with scholars, artists and manyb guests.

The ceremony which started with a minute of silence and the National Hymn of the Republic of Turkey, went on with opening speeches of the President of the TRNC Mustafa Akıncı, TURKSOY Secretary General Prof. Dusen Kasseinov, the Prime Minister Tufan Erhurman, the Minister of National Education and Culture Cemal Özyiğit,  the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the NEU Assoc. Prof. Dr Irfan Suat Günsel, the Rector of the NEU Prof. Dr. Umit Hassan and the the Vice-President of Gagauzia Vitali Vlah.

 

Akıncı: “This Museum will also be a center of attraction in terms of tourism”

 

In the opening speech he delivered at the ceremony, the President of the TRNC Mustafa Akıncı touched upon succesful activities carried out by the NEU since its establishment and  added that the Ataturk Culture and Congress Center which he had attended the opening ceremony of 20 years ago is a solid infrastructure making it possible for various artistic and cultural events to be organized today.

President  Akıncı further said that this university which offers considerable  opportunities to society in general but also to young people and students from third countries is a great source of pride  for everyone  and that the Museum of Contemporary Arts of the TRNC will transcend the borders of the country as it will also host major events of an international scale. Mr. Akıncı who added that the museum will eventually also become a center of attraction for tourism said: “I think this museum will attract many toursits from all countries around the world. May this new initative bring about many fruitful results” dedi. Mr. Akıncı further added that the museum will also be a positive incentive for artists allowing them to be more productive.

 

Kasseinov: "The museum will play a Pioneer role in the promotion of cultural heritage through art "

 

TURKSOY Secretary General   Dusen Kasseinov who also delivered a speech at the ceremony expressed his happiness to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony of the  Museum of Contemporary Arts of the NEU which will play a Pioneer role in the promotion of cultural heritage through art and introduce various aspects of cultural heritage to a large number of people.

Mr. Kasseinov further said that this museum will be the first Museum of Art of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus which will make it possible not only to introduce works of contemporary art to the people bu also to introduce various aspects of cultural heritage to them through art and transmit this precious cultural heritage to future generations.

Mr. Kasseinov added that: “We strongly appreciate and support this initiative which will contribute to the promotion and preservation of museum culture by making it more attractive for people and societ in general. This museum which will be established in the Near East University  will be very meaningful not only fort he TRNC but also fort he Turkic World and the world in general. We strongly believe that this  initiative  will contribute to the preservation of world heritage and bring about considerable growth for our tourism sector. Let me therefore extend my gratitude to artists, scholars and intellectuals who will be contributing to the development of this institution. I would also like to congratulate Dr. Suat I. Günsel for his outstanding efforts aiming at prosperity through education and science. May this activities carried out by this museum bring about  many fruitful results”.

The groundbreaking ceremony which also featured the communication of the message of the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey Nuri Ersoy went on with the handing over of plaquettes to those who provided their support to the project.

 

-The Museum will cover a surface of 20 thousand square meters -

The museum to be established by the NEU will feature works of art donated by TURKSOY from its collection of paintings resulting from its Painters’ Gatherings of the Turkic World.  This museum will be the first Museum of Contemporary Arts of the TRNC. The building of the museum will feature a total surface of 20 thousand square meters on six floors. The  Museum of Contemporary Arts of the TRNC will also have a 1300-person lounge, 4 permanent collection halls, 2 temporary collection  halls, 2 photography exhibition halls and 3 halls for the exhibition of sculptures, i.e. 11 halls in total. Other equipments of the museum include cinevision and conference halls with a capacity of 120 participants for the organization of conferences and symposiums, studios and laboratories for the analysis and restoration of rare artworks, a photography studio, a photography and restoration laboratory, experts’ offices, meeting rooms, climatized storage rooms fort he preservation of special works of art as well as fixing and renewal workshops along with a fully equipped library and archive which will shed light on the history of art.
