The State Academic Philharmony Chamber Choir of Astana enchanted its audience in Ankara
Within the framework of its cooperation with the International Organization of Turkic Culture TURKSOY, the State Academic Philharmony Chamber Choir of Astana gave a wonderful concert in Ankara.
With its brilliant performance under Maestra Gulmira Kuttybadamova in the Concert Hall of Bilkent, the State Academic Philharmony Choir of Astana enchanted its audience which strongly appreciated the performing style and repertoire of the choir featuring various melodies of the Turkic World including arrangements and folk songs by Kazak composers as well as classical and popular works by Western composers.
Songs of Turkic peoples which were performed for the first time in Ankara took the audience onto an unforgettable journey through the melodies of the Turkic World. Amateurs of music gave standing ovations to the artists.
State Academic Philharmony Chamber Choir of Astana
The State Academic Philharmony Chamber Choir of Astana which was established in 2004 is comprised of 38 talented singers aged between 18 and 30. The choir which won two gold medals at the World Choir Games is performing under its Art Director Mrs. Gulmira Kuttybadamova, Teaching Staff Member of the Kazak National University of Art, “Honoured Cultural Worker” and holder of the Excellency in Education Award and holder of state scholarship.
The concert programme of the chamber choir was mostly composed of traditional choir melodies such as “Aibozym”, “Sounds of the 20th Century”, “Contemporary Kazak Choir Melodies”, “Melodies of the Great Steppe” and “Contemporary Choir Classics”. Thanks to its skillful performance the choir introduced folk songs and melodies by famous Kazak composers to the audience with a refreshing and modern style of its own. The repertoire of the choir also features cantatas and oratorios which have been performed for the first time in Astana. Other works regularly performed by the choir also include Erkegali Rahmadiev’s “Alpamys” opera, Nurgisy Tlendieva’s opera for children “Altyn taular”, Zholdybay Dastenov’s “Kambak Shal”, J. S. Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio”, G. Verdi’s “Stabat Mater”, S. Rachmaninov’s “The Bells” and “Spring”, Taneyev’s “John of Damascus”, A. Vivaldi’s “Gloria”, W. A. Mozart’s “Flying”, Ahmed Adnan Saygun’s “Yunus Emre Oratorio” and Ramirez’ “Missa Criolla” and “Navidad Nuestra”.
Popular songs such us "Eternal Love Tones", "Jazz Flowers", "Broadway Bound" and "History of Soul" round up the creative and typical style of the choir.
Thanks to the proficiency, creative and energetic style of its Art Director Gulmira Kuttybadamova who always strives for excellence the choir enjoys international fame as it regularly works together with famous artists such as Nurzhamal Usenbayeva, Dariga Nazarbayeva, Kapash Kulysheva, Dina Hamzina, Azamat Zheltyrguzov, Amikaela Gaston, Nella Salsa, Pyotr Gribanov, Yerzhan Dautov, Gabor Hollerung, Alexander Belyakov and Aitkali Zhaimov.
The performing style of the choir which is typically characterized by a high musicality and perfect pitch is storngly appreciated by amateurs as well as critics. The choir has gained international recognition with various prizes it won including two Gold Medals at the World Choir Competition held in Riga, the capital of Latvia in 2014, the Grand Prix at the International Shabyt Festival in Astana in 2014 and the Grand Prix at the International Choir Festival of Budapest in 2015.
