Conference on "Turkic Languages and World Civilization" held in Kazakhstan
An exhibition of books entitled "The History of World Capitals" and a conference on "Turkic Languages and World Civilization" were held within the framework of the 20th anniversary of the declaration of Astana as capital of Kazakhstan.
The event which featured the Secretary General of the International Organization of Turkic Culture TURKSOY Dusen Kaseinov as keynote speaker started with an opening speech delivered by the Minister of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan Arystanbek Muhamediuly and gathered ambassadors of Russia, Uzbekistan and Germany to Kazakhstan along with more than 20 representatives of libraries from major capitals of world.
Minister Muhamediuly who delivered the opening speech of the exhibition stressed that the capital Astana which is the symbol of success and independence in world politics has become a center of major global decisions on an international scale.
Prof. Dusen Kasseinov who also facilitated the conference on "Turkic Languages and World Civilization" delivered a speech in which he stressed the importance of the worldwide preservation of culture language and traditions. Prof. Kasseinov further said that according to data published by UNESCO , a few languages are included in the list of threatened languages worldwide every year and that these also include languages of our kindred Turkic speaking peoples.
Prof. Kasseinov further said that Turkic peoples have undertaken some initiatives regarding the adoption of a common alphabet and that these initiatives have not brought about any concrete results yet. Prof. Kasseinov added that however, due to the strategic position of Kazakhstan its adoption of the latin alphabet has resulted in some progress in this regard in the Turkic World. Mr. Kasseinov who said that activities carried out by Turkic peoples together with Kazakhstan regarding the adoption of a common alphabet are of particular importance also stressed that TURKSOY also supports the decision met by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan concerning the adoption of the Latin alphabet as this initiative will pave the way for the adoption of the Latin alphabet in other regions of the Turkic World as well.
