“The very essence of TURKSOY is rooted in the unity of Turkic peoples sharing one common language, history and religious belief in solidarity with eachother”
TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General Prof. Dr. Fırat Purtaş who delivered the opening speech of the event expressed his happiness to be hosting such an event on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan and to commemorate illustrious personalities of Azerbaijan who laid the foundations of the independence of their country 100 years ago. Prof. Dr. Purtaş who added that this year is also the 25th anniversary of TURKSOY further said: "This year we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan as well as the 25th anniversary of TURKSOY. TURKSOY was established in 1993 upon signature of its founding agreement by the ministers of culture of Turkic republics. As such it is the first international organization which acts as a platform of multilateral cooperation among these countries. “The very essence of TURKSOY is rooted in the unity of Turkic peoples sharing one common language, history and religious belief in solidarity with eachother”. TURKSOY is is an international organization which has been carrying out activities for a quarter of a century to further strengthen this unity. We can happily say that today, TURKSOY is a highly respected organization of cultural diplomacy which is often refered to as such in many cultural venues accross the world by the United Nations and UNESCO."
“The foundations of TURKSOY were laid by Turkic intellectuals who established Azerbaijan 100 years ago”
Prof. Dr. Purtaş who also said that the foundations of TURKSOY were laid by Turkic intellectuals who established Azerbaijan 100 years ago added: "The essence of TURKSOY is rooted in the idea put forward by intellectuals who established the Republic of Azerbaijan 100 years ago. Indeed, between 1900-1920, these intellectuals issued journals and newspapers together with students of the Usul-u Jadit schools founded by Gaspyraly Ismail and laid the foundations of today’s Azerbaijan as a sovereign republic . It is thanks to them that we are together and united today as they have strengthened our ties of brotherhood through their leadership and ideals which they defended in Baku, Istanbul and Kazan and spread through their publications. As the founder of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan Mehmet Emin Resulzade said, the flag of Azerbaijan kept floating since then after a short break in 1991. The idea of brotherhood among Turkic peoples had always existed and this brought about a revival thereof which has lasted until today with an ever growing enthusiasm after 1990. Thanks to intellectuals who founded the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan, the republic of Azerbaijan is celebrating its 100th anniversary in the Turkic World today. It is our dearest wish that Azerbaijan as well as all other Turkic republics preserve their independence and exist forever and so we pay tribute to and commemorate all pioneers of this independence who fought for their ideas and fell under the cruel regime of Staline."
“Azerbaijan and Turkey are two twin countries which stood in solidarity with eachother in difficult times”
The Chief Advisor of the President of the Republic of Turkey Yalçın Topçu who also delivered a speech at the event stressed the importance of TURKSOY which is hosting this event and qualified TURKSOY as the UNESCO of the Turkic Islamic World. Mr. Topçu who also stressed that ties of brotherhood and friendship between Azerbaijan and Turkey are truly unique in the world as these two countries are in fact twin countries. Mr. Topçu added that Azerbaijan and Turkey have always stood in solidarity with eachother in difficult times and reminded of what Ataturk once said about Azerbaijan:
"Take a family with 6, 7 children 2 of which are twins. They share everything, their joy and their sorrow. This is also true true for Azerbaijan and Turkey which are two kindred countries. Anytime when Azerbaijan was in trouble, Turkey was there with its support and help. In his speech about Azerbaijan, Ataturk said: “Their joy is our joy, their sadness is our sadness.” This has been so throughout history. Those 6 states will remain strong and independent until the end of time. The three-coloured flag of Azerbaijan will always be floating high in the sky."
Mr. Topçu who also said that the Western World is a world of cruelty and genocide stressed that Turkey and Azerbaijan much stand united against the West:
"Look at the world as it is dominated by Western civilization. Look at the world from Eastern Turkistan to the center of Europe. Not so long ago, they committed a genocide and killed Aliya’s children in Srebrenitsa and the whole world just watched it happen. The same goes for Palestine. They destroyed Irak and Syria. They viciously kill the children of Kurdish, Turkmen and Arab people. Blood is also shed in the Caucasus. In Arakan, children are dying because they have no access to drinkwater. The misery in Africa is beyond our imagination. All this has not been done by our civilization. This world needs our civilization. This is why I am saying that Baku and Ankara much stand united against the West. In the end, they are the the twins who will hold their brothers’ hands and bring them forward and to ensure peace for Palestinians and the children of Aliya."
"Azerbaijan was taken as an example by other Turkic peoples"
The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Ankara Hazahr Ibrahim who started his speech by extending his gratitude to TURKSOY for hosting the event said that the 100th anniversary of the Demoratic Republic of Azerbaijan is being celebrated in all regions of Turkey.
Ambassador Ibrahim who stressed that the 100th anniversary of the Demoratic Republic of Azerbaijan is extremely important in Azerbaijan as well as in the entire Turkic Islamic World further added: "The Demoratic Republic of Azerbaijan which was established in 1918 was the first democratic republic of the Turkic Islamic World and it has been an example folloewd by many other Turkic peoples which also established their own republic afterwards."
Ambassador Ibrahim who stressed that the book on “The Establishment and Development of Political Journalism in Azerbaijan” presented in this meeting gives an insight into many facts which occurred in this period and that in the first months following the establishment of the republic of Azerbaijan, intellectuals made considerable efforts to promote their country and acted as “true heroes” in this respect.
