The Balkar Poet Kaisyn Kuliyev was commemorated in Kyrgyzstan
A conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birthday of the Balkar poet Kaisyn Kuliyev was organized in cooperation of the International Organization of Turkic Culture TURKSOY with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Kyrgyzstan, the National Library of Kyrgyzstan and the People's Assembly of Kyrgyzstan.
The commemorative event which took place in the Conference Hall of the National Library of Kyrgyzstan in Bishkek started with the opening of an exhibition featuring 43 books by the people's poet. The conference which also featured a documentary film prepared by the International Chingis Aitmatov Foundation in memory of Kuliyev and Aitmatov gathered representatives of institutions and organizations of the Turkic World along with representatives of foreign missions, scholars, authors, students and many guests.
The event further featured readings of poems by the great Balkar poet Kuliyev as well as presentations on his life, work and contribution to the literature of the Turkic World.
In the speech he delivered at the event, TURKSOY Secretary General Dusen Kasseinov stressed that various events dedicated to the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birthday of Kuliyev will be held in all TURKSOY member countries this year including Azerbaijan and the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria (RF) which is the homeland of the poet. Mr. Kasseinov further said that a book of selected poems by Kuliev has been published by TURKSOY in Azerbaijani, Balkar, Kazak, Kyrgyz and Uzbek languages as well as in Russian to introduce the poet's work to readers in Turkey. Mr. Kasseinov concluded his speech saying that Kuliyev's poems have shed a light on problems of the modern world and drew attanetion to the fact that the poet's words "You may appreciate the entire world, but can you appreciate your neighbour?" still apply in today's world.
In the speech he delivered at the event, the Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan Sultan Rayev said that Kuliyev's works and destiny are directly linked to Kyrgyzstan and added: "Just as Kuliyev is the spiritual father of Caucasians, Chingis Aitmatov is the spiritual father of the Kyrgyz people. This two world famous authors will live forever in our hearts." .
The Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Bishkek for the Promotion of Turkey Nuri Şimşekler said that Kuliyev is a well known figure among authors and scholars in Turkey and added: "Until today, two books of Kuliyev's poems in Turkish have been published in Turkey 'Yaralı Taş' ve 'Kafkas Şiirleri' ("Wounded Stone" and "Caucasian Poems"). There are 50 articles written in Turkish on Kuliyev. The anthology of Kuliyev's poems features not only poems by the author but also short texts on his life."
Kuliyev who was born on November 1st, 1917 in Kabardino Balkaria in the Soviet Union had passed away on June 4th, 1985. Kuliyev's works have been translated into 140 languages. Some of his works include: "Dağ Üstünde Ateş" (Fire on the Mountain), "Dost Evinde" (In the Friend's Home), "Dağlar" (Mountains), "Yaralı Taş" (Wounded Stone), "Başaklar ve Yıldızlar" (Wheat Ears and Stars), "Dünya Kitabı" (World Book).
