International Workshop on the 25th Anniversary of Diplomatic Ties between Turkey and Turkic Republics of Central Asia
An International Workshop on the 25th Anniversary of Diplomatic Ties between Turkey and Turkic Republics of Central Asia was held in the Middle Eastern Technical University.
The workshop was held with the contribution of the Center for Strategic Research of the Republic of Turkey on the campus of the METU. The opening speeches of the workshop were held by the Deputy Chairman of the Center for Strategic Research of the Republic of Turkey and Director of the Academy of Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Prof. Dr. Mesut Ozcan, scholars of the METU Prof. Dr. Oktay Tanrısever, Prof. Dr. Ozlem Ozdemir, Prof. Dr. Meliha Altunışık and the Director General of Bilateral Political Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Ambassador Şefik Vural Altay.
In the speeches they delivered at the first session of the workshop, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Ankara H. E. Hazar Ibrahim, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Ankara H. E. Abzal Saparbekuly, the Deputy Secretary General of the International organization of Turkic Culture TURKSOY, Prof. Dr. Fırat Purtaş as well as officials of the Embassies of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan touched upon the evolution of diplomatic ties between Turkey and Turkic republics of Central Asia within the last 25 years. Prof. Dr. Fırat Purtas gave some information on TURKSOY as well as on activities carried out in cooperation of TURKSOY with Turkic republics.
The workshop which gathered a large number of scholars and researchers featured presentations on a wide range of issues including the diplomatic, economic, social, cultural and historical dimensions of bilateral ties between Turkey and Turkic republics, as well as the development of multilateral ties among these countries and activities carried out in cooperation with academic institutions.
