Winners of the International Dede Korkut Competition of Theater Plays were handed over their prizes

Prizes of the Second International Dede Korkut Competition of Theater Plays organized in cooperation of the International Organization of Turkic Culture with the Eurasian Authors’ Union were handed over to their winners.

 

The prizes were handed over to their winners in a ceremony hosted by TURKSOY Secretary General  Prof. Dusen Kasseinov held in TURKSOY Headquarters  on December 19th, 2017. The ceremony took place in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey Huseyin Yayman, the former Minister of Culture, Chairman of the Turkic World Foundation  and MP of Eskisehir Prof. Dr. Nabi Avcı, the former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Director General of the Anatolian School Sami Guclu, the Chairman of the Eurasian Authors’ Union Assist. Prof. Dr. Yakup Omeroglu, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Akhmet Yassawi International Kazak Turkish University Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız, the Deputy Chairman of the Authors’ Union of Azerbaijan Resad Mecid and  the poet along with many guests and members of the press media.

In the opening speech he delivered at the ceremony, TURKSOY Secretary General Kasseinov stressed the fact that TURKSOY attaches particular importance to events and activities aiming at the promotion and development of the literature of the Turkic World. Mr. Kasseinov who touched upon various activities carried out by TURKSOY in this regard said that the year 2018 was declared as Year of Chingis Aitmatov  on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of his birthday  and that  various events will be carried out in TURKSOY member countries within this framework.  

Mr. Kasseinov who also stressed that the Eurasian Authors’ Union is an important cooperation partner of TURKSOY when it comes to the promotion of the literature heritage of the Turkic World said: "The Eurasian Authors’ Union has been carrying out international projects which have been particularly beneficial for young generations for more than ten years. It is a great pleasure for us in TURKSOY to work on cooperation projects with the Eurasian Authors’ Union which organizes workshops on various genres of literature such as  short stories, poems, essays and others. Indeed, such activities do not only strongly contribute to the transmission of the  rich literature heritage of our ancestors to young generations but also pave the way for  future activities to be carried out in this respect. Joint activities  in cooperation of TURKSOY with the Eurasian Auhtors’ Union are traditionally carried out every year. They include the Congresses of Literature Journals of the Turkic World and the International Kashgarly Mahmut Short Story Competition as well as the International Dede Korkut Competition of Theater Plays which we have held for the second time this year.".

The Chairman of the Eurasian Authors’ Union Yakup Omeroglu who also delivered a speech at the ceremony expressed his gratitude to all institutions and personalities who supported the project. Mr. Omeroglu  who said that activities carried out by the Eurasian Authors’ Union  strongly contribute to the support of authors of the Turkic World in their Professional activities added that the Turkmen people of the Turkmen Sahra Region of Iran have participated in the competition with short stories written in Turkmen language for the first time. In this regard, Mr. Omeroglu stressed that thanks to the International Dede Korkut Competition of Theater Play, a theater play was written for the first time in the Turkmen Sahra Region of Iran. Mr Omeroglu who further said that this year, the competition took place with the contribution of 48 theater plays from various regions of the Turkic World, also expressed his wish as to a growing number of participants in the coming years and said that comptitions held by  the Eurasian Authors’ Union throughout the Turkic World  strongly contribute to enrichening the literature of the latter. 

 In the speech he delivered at the ceremony, the Director General of the Anatolian School Sami Guclu  said: "We are making serious efforts to establish and preserve cultural ties within the Turkic World. Given the current circumstances, we will have to strengthen these joint efforts in the long term. We are already taking the steps necessary to promote these common  cultural values of the Turkic World beyond its borders. Next year, we will organize Chingis Aitmatov readings to pay tribute to the legacy of this great author. These readings will be held with the contribution of 1700 high school and university students and give them  the opportunity to better understand works written by this legendary Kyrgyz author. As they will take place in the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2018, we will be commemorating Chingis Aitmatov both in Kastamonu and Bolu by the same occasion."

The Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey  Huseyin Yayman extended his gratitude to TURKSOY as well as all other institutions and organizations for their contribution to activities regarding the preservation, development and promotion of the literature of the Turkic World. Mr. Yayman further expressed his happiness to see that the idea of  Ismail Gaspyraly regarding “Unity in Language, Ideas and Actions” is being concretely materialized and added that this clearly hints at the necessity to carry out even more activities regarding the Turkic World. Mr. Yayman who concluded his speech by congratulating Mr. Kasseinov for his election as Secretary General of TURKSOY for another term in Office extended his wishes of success to him for  2017-2020.

The MP of Eskisehir Prof. Dr. Nabi Avcı who also extended his wishes of success to Mr. Kasseinov greeted the audience saying: "As we have come together for  the award ceremony of the Dede Korkut International Competition of Theater Plays, this is also an occasion for us to commemorate this ancestor of Turkic peoples and pay tribute to the precious heritage he left behind by trying to understand his philosophy". Prof. Dr. Avcı who extended his gratitude to institutions and organizations for their  support regarding the organization of the competition  also stressed that this competition has been a  strong contribution to the preservation and promotion of a common cultural value and heritage of the Turkic World. Prof. Dr. Avcı further said, "Tales of Dede Korkut, the wise ancestor of the Turkic World put a particular emphasis on Turkic peoples’ strong character and solid moral values as well as their bravery and their conception of war, peace, family and education. Integrity, keeping one’s promises and the courage to die for the sake of one’s belief are the most characteristic values praised in Dede Korkut’s tales. Indeed, all characters in these tales attach highest importance to the notions of family and humanism. Thus, these tales stand for our nation’s tolerance and worldview. We therefore pay tribute to the great wiseman of the Turkic World Dede Korkut and extend our ngratitude to the participants and jury members of the  Second International Dede Korkut Competition of Theater Plays."  

The opening speeches were followed by the award ceremony in which winners of the competition were handed over their prizes. In the competition, the First Prize went to  the Uygur author from Kazakhstan Ahmetjan Ashiri for his theater play  “Sharbak",  the Second Prize went to Lutfi Shahsuvaroglu from Turkey for his play "Tuğrul Beyin Rüyası" (Tugrul Bey’s Dream)  and the Third Prize went to Pervin Nuraliyeva from Azerbaijan for her play entitled "Aşar Geçer Aras'ı" (Ashar Crosses the Aras River). The Mansion Prize went to Oğulmaya Semizade, the participant from the Turkmen Sahra region of Iran.

In the speech he delivered at the end of the award ceremony, Mr. Ahmetjan Ashiri said: "We are living in this world as the children of the eternal Turkic peoples. We are thankful to the Turkish state and the Republic of Turkey which is always there to help  and protect Turkic peoples wherever they live in the world. The existence of the Turkish state and the Republic of Turkey makes us feel strong. We thank TURKSOY for its activities aiming at the rapprochement of Turkic peoples".

While at the end of the event,  Mr. Yakup Omeroglu extended the Honour Medal of the  Eurasian Authors’ Union to TURKSOY Secretary General  Dusen Kasseinov, TURKSOY  Secretary General  Dusen Kasseinov extended the Medal of TURKSOY dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the independence of Turkic republics to the Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey  Huseyin Yayman.
