Kastamonu, Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2018

Kastamonu has been declared Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2018 by the International Organization of Turkic Culture -TURKSOY.

The 35th Term Meeting of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY  took place on December 5th, 2017 in  Turkistan, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2017 where the great philosopher of the Turkic World Khoja Akhmet Yassawi once used to live.

The 35th Term Meeting of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY hosted by the Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazak-Turkish University gathered  TURKSOY Secretary Genera  Dusen Kasseinov, the MP of Azerbaijan Nizami Caferov, the Minister of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Arystanbek Muhamediuly, the Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism of Kyrgyzstan Sultanbek Jumagulov, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey  Huseyin Yayman, the Deputy Minister of Culture of Turkmenistan Nursahet Shyrymov, the Chief of the Administration of Culture and Tourism Affairs of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia (Moldova) Mrs. Marina Semenova, the Governor of Province of Southern Kazakhstan Janseyit Tuymebayev, the Governor of Turkistan Alipbek Userbaev, the Deputy Secretary General of the Turkic Council  Omer Kocaman, the Governor of  Kastamonu Yasar Karadeniz, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Khoja Akhmet Yassawi University Musa Yıldız, Representatives of the Ministries of Culture of TURKSOY member countries, representatives of the Turkic Academy, officials of the TRT channel, representatives of the Khoja Akhmet Yassawi University and many journalists.

Issues discussed in the meeting pertained to activities carried out by TURKSOY in 2017 as well as to activities to be carried out by TURKSOY in 2018, the selection of the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2018, the selection of illustrious personalities of the Turkic World who will be commemorated  in the coming year. The 35th Term Meeting of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY  also featured the election of the Secretary General of TURKSOY for 2017-2020.

In line with the suggestion submitted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, the Permanent Council of TURKSOY declared the city of Kastamonu as Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2018.

Upon suggestions of the Ministries of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, the Permanent Council of TUKSOY further determined illustrious personalities of the Turkic World who will be commemorated by TURKSOY in 2018. Hence, activities carried out by TURKSOY in 2018 will be dedicated to the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birthday of the Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev, the 125th anniversary of the birthday of the Kazak composer Magjan Jumabayev and the 90th anniversary of the birthday of the Kyrgyz author Chingis Aitmatov.

The Permanent Council elected Mr. Dusen Kasseinov as Secretary General of TURKSOY  for  who will be further assuming this function for the term 2017-2020.

Within the framework of the meeting, best painters selected among participants of the  19th and 20th Painters’ Gatherings of  TURKSOY were handed over the TURKSOY Prize.

Following the meeting, the Finalk Declaration of the 35th Term Meeting of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY was phublished.

The Closing Ceremony of Turkistan, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2017 took place in the Concert Hall of the  Khoja Akhmet Yassawi University and featured a concert with colourful performances by musicians, folk dance ensembles and soloists of the Turkic World.

More than 100 artists from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Bashkortostan (RF), Sakha-Yakutia (RF), Tatarstan (RF), Tyva (RF) and Crimea took the scene in this beautiful concert introducing the rich cultural heritage of the Turkic World to the audience.

At the end of the concert, the Governor of Kastamonu  Yaşar Karadeniz and the Mayor of Kastamonu Tahsin Babaş were handed over   the symbol of the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2018 by the Permanent Council of TURKSOY.
