Poets of the Turkic World will come together in Turkistan

The Poets' Gathering of the Turkic World is one of several activities carried out by TURKSOY in the field of literature. Thjis year, this gathering will be dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the birthday of the famous Azerbaijani author of the 18th century, Molla Penah Vagif and take place in Turkistan (Kazakhstan), the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2017.
The gathering which will be organized in cooperation of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), with the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), the World Association of Authors and Intellectuals , the Khoja Akhmet Yassawi University, the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan, the Governorate of the Province of Southern Kazakhstan and the Municipality of Turkistan will take place in the homeland of Khoja Akhmet Yassawi between August 25th-26th, 2017 with the contribution of 25 poets of the Turkic World from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Gagauzia (Moldova), Bashkortostan (RF), Dagestan (RF), Sakha Yakutia (RF) and Tatarstan (RF).
The Poets' Gathering of the Turkic World will contribute to the promotion of the culture, literature and art of the poets' countries of origin while also transmitting Turkic language, culture, literature and poetry to young generations of the Turkic World.
Within the framework of the gathering, poets of the Turkic World will also have the opportunity to get acquainted with the history and touristic sites of Turkistan where the Shrine of Khoja Akhmet Yassawi is located.
On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the birthday of the great author of the Turkic World, TURKSOY has declared the year 2017as Year of Molla Penah Vagif who is one of the most remarkable authors of Azerbaijan who lived in the 18th century and is known as the poet of beauty and love. Vagif's poems are characterized by a subtle alliance of realism and aesthetics. These poems which have been published many times are still appreciated today and many authors also wrote articles on Vagif, his life and work.
Upon proposal of TURKSOY, the Heads of States of Turkic Speaking Countries had decided to declare one city of the Turkic World as its Cultural Capital at their 10th Summit held in 2010 in Istanbul. Within this framework, the city of Turkistan (Yesi) in Kazakhstan has been declared "Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2017" and is hosting various activities carried out by TURKSOY to promote and transmit the culture and art of the Turkic World to future generations.
