“Yunus Emre – Şakarim: The Spiritual Unity of Turkic Peoples” International Symposium Held in Astana

The International Symposium entitled “Yunus Emre – Şakarim: Spiritual Unity of the Turkic Peoples” held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, on  April 14th, 2026, served as a significant scientific and cultural platform bringing together the shared cultural and spiritual values of the Turkic World. 

The event was hosted by the Eurasian National University named after  L. N. Gumilyov.

The symposium, organised in cooperation of TURKSOY with the Ankara University of Social Sciences, the Authors’ Association of Türkiye and the Yunus Emre Institute, stood as a strong example of cultural solidarity among institutions of the Turkic World.

The event began with the opening of an art exhibition on Yunus Emre and Şakarim Kudayberdiuli, prepared by children from the Turkic World. The exhibition attracted strong interest as a reflection of how the shared spiritual legacy of these two great philosophers is perceived by younger generations.

During the opening, the Rector of the Eurasian National University delivered a speech, whilst a message from TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev was read to the participants. Subsequently, Mr. Musa Kazım Arıcan, Mr. Orhan Kemal Tavukçuoğlu and other invited speakers took the floor, highlighting the shared spiritual values of the Turkic World.

Sessions held at the symposium focused on the human-centred philosophy, the concept of tolerance and universal values of Yunus Emre and Şakarim.
