Young Poets Gather in Osh on the 85th Anniversary of Jolon Mamytov's Birthday

On  May 28th 2025, the opening ceremony of the ‘Jolon Mamytov Green World Young Poets Competition,’ held in honour of the 85th anniversary of the birthday of the great Kyrgyz poet Jolon Mamytov, was enthusiastically held at the Osh State University Cultural Centre in the city of Osh, Kyrgyzstan.

Organised under the auspices of TURKSOY, the event was realised in collaboration with the Kyrgyz Ministry of Culture, the Osh Regional Administration, the Osh Municipality, and the Osh State University. The opening speeches were delivered by the Kyrgyz State Secretary, the Osh Regional Governor, and the Osh Mayor. The speeches highlighted the significance of Jolon Mamytov in Kyrgyz literature and his legacy as an inspiration for future generations.

Secretary General Raev stated that Mamytov is not only a common value for Kyrgyz literature but also for the entire Turkic World, and that such literary events strengthen cultural ties among young generations.

The competition took on an international dimension with the participation of young poets from Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan, as well as guest poets from Hungary. Thus, literary unity was achieved not only within the Turkic World but also among friendly and related communities.

Throughout the event, examples of Jolon Mamytov 's poems were recited, and presentations were made on his life and literary legacy. Poems on the themes of environmental awareness and love for nature, within the framework of the ‘Green World’ theme, were recited by young poets and presented to the jury.

The final round of the competition and the award ceremony are scheduled to take place in the coming days. The competition aims to support literary production among the youth of the Turkic World, preserve shared cultural values, and raise environmental awareness.
