Visit of TURKSOY Secretary General Raev to Cultural Heritage Institutions in Skopje
On his visit to Skopje upon official invitation by Mr. Zoran Ljutkov, the Minister of Culture and Tourism of North Macedonia, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev visited leading institutions of culture and arts of the country.
Within this framework, Secretary General Raev first visited the Philharmonic Hall of North Macedonia where officials informed him about activities carried out by the institution including concerts and international cooperation projects in the field of culture.
After examining the modern infrastructure of the Philharmonic Hall, Secretary General Raev noted that music and performing arts play a significant role in strengthening cultural exchange between the Turkic World and the Balkans. Secretary General Raev who then visited the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle, was informed about the exhibits related to the country’s recent history.
The last institution visited by Secretary General Raev in Skopje was the Archaeological Museum of North Macedonia where he examined artifacts reflecting the rich historical heritage of the Balkans and showed particular interest in the Trebeništa Gold Mask, one of the museum’s most striking exhibits, which dates back to the 6th century BC.
During the visit, Secretary General Raev especially stressed the striking similarity between this unique artifact on display in North Macedonia and the gold mask preserved at the National History Museum of Kyrgyzstan—which dates back to the 2nd–5th centuries BC.
Secretary General Raev who further stated that despite having been discovered in different regions, the shared aesthetic elements between the two artifacts provide important clues in terms of the research on cultural interactions among ancient civilizations of Eurasia.
Noting that North Macedonia, which stands out for its rich historical and cultural heritage, has made significant contributions to strengthening cultural ties between the Turkic World and the Balkans, Secretary General Raev expressed his confidence in the fact that cooperation in this area will continue to grow stronger in the future.
