Visit of Secretary General Raev to Samsun

TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev established important contacts during his visit to Samsun which was organised  to see get acquainted with the cultural and historical richness of the city and contribute to its promotion  on a global scale.

  TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev paid a visit to the  Governor of Samsun Mr. Orhan Tavlı. During the meeting, a fruitful exchange of ideas was held on  cultural projects of Samsun and its cooperation with TURKSOY. The Governor's vision for the cultural development and international promotion of the city once again underlined the importance of the visit.
 

  During the meeting, which took place in a warm atmosphere, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev proposed to organise the Painters' Gathering of the Turkic World traditionally held every year in Samsun.  Mr. Raev further added: “Samsun is an extremely rich city in terms of both cultural and historical texture. Our Governor's interest in the Turkic World has encouraged us to organise many  events of TURKSOY in Samsun.” 
 

  Raev: Aktav and Samsun are sister cities
 

  In the bilateral meeting which took place in the office of Governor … Secretary General Raev reminded of the fact that the city of  Aktau in  Kazakhstan was selected as the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World Capital 2025 and said: "‘I think that, it will be very appropriate to hold Cultural Days of Aktau  in Samsun and to make sure that the province of Samsun is represented in the opening ceremony of the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2025 with the participation of a delegation from Samsun in Kazakhstan under the leadership of our honourable Governor.

  Governor Tavlı: "We will carry out projects to bring the Turkic World further forward

   Speaking highly of TURKSOY's activities and its importance for the Turkic World, Mr. Orhan Tavlı, the Governor of Samsun, said: “Together we will carry out joint projects to keep alive and carry forward the history and culture of the Turkic World. I would like to express my gratitude to TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev.” 

  Later on, Secretary General Raev met with the Deputy Chairman of the City Council of the Metropolitan Municipality of Samsun  Mr. Nihat Soğuk and listened to the presentation made to him about  cultural activities and projects in the city. Stating that TURKSOY is ready to provide all kinds of support to the Folk Dances Festival planned to be held in Samsun in June-July 2025, Mr. Raev said that TURKSOY will work on the organisation of the  Festival of Samsun and  Sister Cities of the Turkic World that this event will be matured and implemented in the near future. 

  During the meeting with Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal, the Rector of the Ondokuz Mayıs University, Secretary General Raev was informed about  cultural activities and academic studies of the university and discussed cultural and academic opportunities offered by the university to young people as a big step forward for the future cooperation with TURKSOY.

  In addition, Secretary General Raev and Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal agreed upon the organization of  an international symposium on the language, history, civilisation and geography of the Turkic World with the participation of TURKSOY.  
 

  In the afternoon, during the meeting with Prof. Dr. Mahmut Aydın, the Rector of the Samsun University, Mr. Raev listened to a  presentation on cultural and academic studies of the university and appreciated the efforts of the universities in Samsun to increase the cultural awareness of young people through scientific research and cultural events.

  Finally, Sultan Raev visited important cultural and artistic venues of Samsun such as the  Atatürk Cultural Centre of Samsun, the Bandirma Ferry and National Struggle Park Open Air Museum. During his visit to the Bandirma Ferry, Mr. Raev emphasised that the Bandirma Ferry, the symbol of Türkiye's struggle for independence, is an important place that perfectly represents the historical identity of Samsun and said: “The history written here has turned into an important spark that will later influence the entire Turkic World.”

 
  Stating that the visit to Samsun included important steps towards strengthening TURKSOY's cultural cooperation and promoting the cultural richness of Samsun in the international arena, Mr. Raev said: “The cultural heritage of Samsun is of great value not only for Türkiye but also for the entire Turkic World, and we, at TURKSOY, will further pursue our efforts to preserve and transfer this heritage to future generations.”

  At the end of the visit, Secretary General Raev expressed his gratitude to the people of Samsun and to local administrators for their hospitality and expressed his great honour to share this beautiful day they spent in Samsun.
