TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev paid a visit to the Founding Rector of the Near East University Dr. Suat Irfan Günsel

A delegation  of TURKSOY headed by its Secretary General Sultan Raevpaid a visit to the Founding Rector of the Near East University Dr. Suat Irfan Günsel.

The delegation of TURKSOY which was welcomed by the Founding Rector of the University Dr. Suat Irfan Günsel visited the university which is well-known not only in the TRNC but also worldwide  and saw its collections of paintings, statues, car museums, library and hospital.

Prior to the visit, Dr. Gürsel who welcomed TURKSOY Secretary General Raev and his delegation in his Office  gave some information on the history and establishment of the university as well as on its current status. 

In the meeting with Rector Günsel, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev expressed his gratitude to  Dr. Suat Irfan Günsel for his precious support and said that his presence is of major importance for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and for the Turkic World. Secretary General Raev also stressed that it is a great source of happiness to have brought together the turkic World under the auspices of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Cyprus.

Secretary General Raev who visited the Car Museum of Cyprus and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Cyprus and said that he was enchanted by evrything which he saw further added: “I have been to places all over the world and I can easily say that I have never seen such a university before. Students of this university receive an education which goes hand in hand with real works of art and this develops their sense and preception of beauty and what is beautiful. As they see works of art wherever they go, they will perhaps become painters or sculptors later  on even if they studied totally different subjects and this will of course contribute to the development of art in the Turkic World.”

In the meeting gathering TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev and the Founding Rector of the Near East University Dr. Suat Irfan Gunsel both parties also discussed the organization of a meeting of Rectors of TURKSOY member countries to be hosted by the Near East University in 2023. Secretary General Raev who expressed his appreciation regarding the Near East University and its pioneer position in terms of education art and culture amongts others also said that such a meaningful meeting in the Near East University  will be of key importance and added that it will be an honour and pleasure for him to organize it.

Secretary General Raev handed over to  Dr. Suat Irfan Günsel the Honour Medal of TURKSOY which is the highest award of the organization in recognition of his precious contribution to culture and art in the Turkic World. 

The Founding Rector of the Near East University Dr. Suat Irfan Günsel who said a few words during his meeting with TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev expressed the fact that it ia an honour for him to be handed over this Gold Medal of TURKSOY which is highest award.

Dr. Günsel further added that the Near East University has been working to contribute to the mutual rapprochement of peoples of the Turkic World for 43 years and stressed the importance of the mission assumed by TURKSOY in this respect  while also expressing his happiness to be further cooperating with TURKSOY to reach common goals.

The meeting ended with the mutual handing over of plaquettes and a group photograph.
