TURKSOY Secretary General Raev: The Opening Ceremony of Aktau, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World’ 2025 strengthened the cultural unity of the Turkic World

On April 7th, 2025, the Governor of the Province of Mangystau Mr. Nurdaulet Kaghbay met with the Secretary General of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture TURKSOY Mr. Sultan Raev in his office to discuss  the  opening ceremony of the ‘Cultural Capital of the Turkic World’ held in Aktau on April 5th,  2025. Both sides also exchanged views on the scope and implementation of cultural events planned to be organised throughout the year.

 

Secretary General of TURKSOY Sultan Raev noted that the opening ceremony was organised at a high level and thanked all the institutions, in particular the Governorate of Mangestau. Emphasising that the event established a strong bond between  peoples, Secretary General Raev said:

 

‘The opening ceremony held in Aktau made a strong contribution to the cultural unity of the Turkic World. The atmosphere in the Cultural Village reflected  feelings of brotherhood and sincerity between our peoples in the best way. The hospitality was extremely impressive. Participants and artists left the event with great satisfaction.’

 

In the meeting, Governor  Kaghbay drew attention to the historical and cultural uniqueness of Mangystau. Recalling words of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym Jomart Tokayev: ‘It is our common duty to further strengthen cooperation between peoples with common roots and traditions’, Governor  Kaghbay further  noted that such events foster the solidarity between Turkic peoples. Governor  Kaghbay  further stressed that Mangystau which is the birthplace of  important personalities such as Abil, Yassir, Kashagan, Sugir and Abish Kekilbayev, is also a rich centre of spirituality and art in the region with its cultural heritage from the past to the present. Stating that about 100 thousand people participated in the Opening Ceremony of "Aktau - The Cultural Capital of  the Turkic World ’, Governor Kılıbay said that this interest clearly demonstrates the cultural potential of the region and added that all cultural events planned to take place throughout the year will be carried out with the same rigour.

The preparations for a wide range of cultural events ranging from concerts to theatre performances, exhibitions, literature days and academic panels were also discussed at the meeting. These programmes to be carried out under the coordination of TURKSOY are expected to further strengthen cultural ties in the Turkic World.
