TURKSOY engages in Cultural Cooperation with Mongolia
Secretary General Raev evaluated the deep-rooted ties between the Turkic World and Mongolia along with activities planned to be carried out in the near future within the framework of the cooperation between TURKSOY and Mongolia.
Mr. Raev who stated that this was the first official visit of TURKSOY to Mongolia at the level of Secretary General in the history of the organisation and added that the first Turkic state in history was established on these lands said that, in this respect, TURKSOY's presence in Mongolia is very meaningful.
Secretary General Raev further added that the Organization is looking forward to introducing scholars and artists of the Turkic World to these lands while also promoting the cultural heritage of Mongolia and more particularly its nomadic culture, which has been preserved in a magnificent way, in TURKSOY member countries. Expressing that he was very pleased to witness the interest in the Turkic World during his contacts in Mongolia, Mr. Raev further said: ‘I met many Turkish-speaking young people. These young people studied with Turkish Scholarships in Türkiye, which is the host country of our Organisation. Moreover, today they are making a great contribution to the strengthening of our fraternal ties which date back to thousands of years through institutional structures such as the Turkish Alumni Association, as our ambassadors of the heart. TURKSOY, aims at contributing to this process through joint cultural and artistic events.’
- ‘Mongolia is an integral part of the Turkic World’
Stating that they consider Mongolia as an integral part of the Turkic World, Secretary General Sultan Raev emphasised that official contacts held in the capital Ulaanbaatar with the support of the Embassy of Mongolia in Ankara will turn into concrete projects in 2025.
Adding that during his meetings with Mongolian Deputy Prime Minister Amarsaikhan Sainbuyan and Mongolian Minister of Culture, Sports, Youth and Tourism Nomin Chinbat, the issue of observer membership of Mongolia to TURKSOY was also on the agenda, Mr. Raev further said: ‘We are ready to work with all our means to contribute to the brotherhood of the Turkic and Mongolian peoples who have established great empires in Asia and whose roots date back to thousands of years.’
Within the framework of his official visit to Mongolia, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev met with the Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Amarsaikhan Sainbuyan and the Minister of Culture, Sports, Youth and Tourism of Mongolia Nomin Chinbat, as well as with officials of important institutions and organisations such as the Mongolian University of Fine Arts and Culture and embassies of TURKSOY member countries.
During his official visit to Mongolia, Secretary General Raev also took part in a meeting hosted by the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Mongolia H. E. Mr. Zafer Ateş and held with the participation of the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Mongolia H. E. Mr. Koishibayev Gabit Beibituly as well as of representatives of diplomatic missions of other TURKSOY member countries and Mr. Ali Muslu, the Programme Coordinator of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) in Ulaanbaatar.
Mr. Raev who also visited the Orkhon Inscriptions and praised the activities carried out by TIKA. Secretary General Raev said: ‘Until today, TIKA has fulfilled a very important task here. The Orkhon Inscriptions, which are 400 kilometres away from Ulaanbaatar and which we reached through the Bilge Kagan Highway built by TIKA, are very important written sources for Turkic history. These artefacts are a guide for us. During my official visit, I also had the opportunity to visit the Tonyukuk Museum, which is currently under construction. A very important work is underway to immortalise Turkic cultural heritage. We look forward to its opening. TIKA extends its hand wherever there are Turkic peoples in the world without expecting anything in return. I once again witnessed the value it attaches to our past, history and common cultural heritage in these lands. I congratulate all those who have contributed to this precious work.’
Concerning his meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Amarsaikhan Sainbuyan at the Mongolian Parliament, Mr. Raev expressed his appreciation as to the fact that Deputy Prime Minister Sainbuyan closely follows up activities carried out by TURKSOY and said: ‘Deputy Prime Minister Sainbuyan welcomed us very warmly. He stated that TURKSOY is an important organisation for the Turkic World and underlined that Mongolia has the same cultural roots not only with Türkiye but also with all the independent Turkic states that are members of TURKSOY and stated that the upcoming Presidential visit between Mongolia and Türkiye is very important for the deepening of relations with the Turkic World. We had the opportunity to convey our concrete project proposals to the Deputy Prime Minister, who also expressed that they would be pleased to support activities of TURKSOY. In the coming days, we will further strengthen our cultural ties through joint activities with the participation of Mongolian artists and intellectuals.’
Following the meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister, Secretary General Sultan Raev stated that he visited Nomin Chinbat, Minister of Culture, Sports, Youth and Tourism of Mongolia and conveyed proposals including concrete projects and cooperation issues to Minister Chinbat. Stating that the meeting with the Minister of Culture, Sports, Youth and Tourism Nomin Chinbat was very productive, Secretary General Raev said: ‘The Minister received us very warmly. Before our meeting with him, we visited the Genghis Khan Museum, the newest museum of Mongolia, and made examinations. During this meeting I expressed my appreciation and shared information about our activities in TURKSOY member countries as well as in prestigious cultural centres of the world. Being someone who has great respect for the cultural heritage of Mongolia, I expressed our readiness to carry ouot joint events to introduce this herirage to both TURKSOY member countries and all over the world. Minister Chinbat expressed his appreciation and made some concrete proposals. He drew attention to the fact that Turkic history is well known in Mongolia and stated that they are open to cooperation to make Mongolian history better known. In this context, our first concrete cooperation will be the participation of young people from Mongolia in the Youth Summit of TURKSOY to take place in Almaty, Kazakhstan as one of the important outputs of our youth vision. Again, upon the request of the Minister, we will work together for the premiere of the magnificent production ‘Mongol Khan’ in Türkiye. In the coming year, we have decided to include cultural events such as various academic activities and cinema days in our calendar. So God will, we will soon raise our cooperation with Mongolia to an institutional level and act together in important projects."
Within the scope of TURKSOY's visits to Mongolia, a cooperation protocol was signed between TURKSOY and the Mongolian University of Fine Arts and Culture. During the signature ceremony, both sides agreed upon the organization of mutual concerts, exchanges between artists, master classes and various cultural events. Within this framework Mongolian artists are expected to take part in events to take place in the Turkic World and artists from the Turkic World expected to participate in events to be organised in Mongolia. Furthermore, Mongolia will soon also join the Association of Universities of Fine Arts of the Turkic World established under the auspices of TURKSOY.
