Turkish version of Serikbol Kondıbay's book ‘Arğıkazak Mythology’ published by TURKSOY

The International Organisation of Turkic Culture TURKSOY published the translation of Serikbol Kondıbay's comprehensive work ‘Arğıkazak Mythology’ into Turkish. The Turkish version of the book was presented in an event, hosted by the National Library of the Republic of Türkiye in Ankara. 

The event was attended by TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Ankara  H. E. Mr. Yerkebulan Sapiyev, the Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Ankara H. E. Mr. Ilkhom Khaydarov, the Deputy Governor of the Province of Mangıstau Mr. Tilegen Abishev, the Mayor of Aktau Mr. Abilkair Baipakov and the Director of the Province of Mangıstau in charge of Cultural Affairs Mr. Nurtas Sali along with many scholars, authors and art lovers.

The event began with an opening speech by Mr. Ayhan Tuğlu, the Director of the National Library and went on with an opening speech by Mr. Sultan Raev, the Secretary General of TURKSOY who stated that Serikbol Kondıbay's work is a great cultural achievement not only for the Kazakh people but also for the entire Turkic World, saying:

"Serikbol Kondıbay is one of the few philosophers who view Turkic mythology from a scientific perspective. His work, Arghikazak Mythology, is a fundamental resource for understanding the shared mythological memory of Turkic peoples. At TURKSOY, we consider it a great responsibility and honour to have contributed to the translation of this valuable work into Turkish language."

Secretary General Raev stated that a series of events will be held in Ankara, Izmir and Istanbul to introduce this work to academic circles in Türkiye, and expressed his gratitude to the Presidential National Library, the Turkish Literature Foundation, the Chess Museum of the Gökyay Foundation and the Foundation of the Bademler Art Village for their precious contribution to the project.

In his speech, the Deputy Governor of the Province of Mangistau Mr. Tilegen Abishev stated that Serikbol Kondıbay was a spiritual pioneer not only in Kazakhstan but throughout the Turkic World: “Despite spending the last nine years of his life in a wheelchair, Serikbol Kondıbay wrote 16 works which are the cornerstones of Turkic mythology. The Kazakh people refer to him as the “sun-born hero” and the “legendary bird”."

H. E. Mr. Yerkebulan Sapiyev, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Ankara, who also delivered a speech at the event emphasised that ‘Arğıkazak Mythology’ is a work that refreshes the spiritual memory not only of the Kazakh people but of all Turkic peoples.

"This book reveals the spiritual continuity and cultural integrity of Turkic peoples from past to present. TURKSOY's contribution to the translation of this work into Turkish has further strengthened the cultural bridges between our kindred peoples."

The Ambassador of Uzbekistan's to Ankara, U. E. Mr. lkhom Khaydarov who   delivered a short welcoming speech at the ceremony stressed the fact that such publications are extremely important in terms of the strengthening of the common Turkic history and culture.

The opening speeches were followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony held to symbolise the book's contribution to the literature of the Turkic World. The ceremony was followed by a short documentary about the life of Serikbol Kondıbay and a video message from Prof. Dr. Bülent Bayram, who translated the book into Turkish.

At the event where TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev offered an especially prepared copy of the book ‘Ağrıkazak Mythology’ to Mr. Ayhan Tuğlu, the Director of the National Library of the Republic of Türkiye,  the Deputy Governor of the Province of Mangıstau Mr. Tilegen Abishev, the Mayor of Aktau Mr. Abilkair Baipakov  and the  Director of the Province of Mangıstau in charge of Cultural Affairs Mr. Nurtas Sali were honoured with the Medal of TURKSOY which they received  in recognition of their contributions to the culture of the Turkic World.,

The book launch event ended with a musical performance featuring melodies from the Turkic World.
