The Mughal State Academic Music and Drama Theatre of Uzbekistan has reopened its doors
The Mughal State Academic Music and Drama Theatre of Uzbekistan in Osh, Kyrgyzstan has reopened its doors upon completion of the necessary renovation works.
The renovation works of the Mughal Theatre which is one of the first theatres of Central Asia, started on September 5th, 2021 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its foundation and ended in April 2023. The Republic of Uzbekistan spent 5 million US dollars for the renovation of the century-old theatre.
The opening ceremony of the theatre held on April 24th, 2023 gathered TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Edil Baysalov, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic Kayrat Imanaliyev and the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ozodbek Nazarbekov along with his accompanying delegation.
In the opening speech he delivered, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev said: “This event is a symbol of friendship of the Kyrgyz and Uzbek peoples. Kyrgyz and Uzbek peoples are two wings of one bird” and thanked everyone for their contribution.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Edil Baysalov expressed his gratitude to President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his support on behalf of the Kyrgyz people. Stating that this support will be instrumental in further strengthening the friendship between the two peoples, he said: "We are one people with one grave and one market. We would like to thank our guests who travelled from Tashkent. We hope that our theatre will serve all the people of Kyrgyzstan."
The Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ozodbek Nazarbekov said: "May our renovated theatre continue to serve forever as a spiritual bridge uniting the Uzbek and Kyrgyz peoples. I sincerely believe that it will make a great contribution to keeping our common culture alive in the future."
Following the speeches, the Opening Ceremony went on with a concert programme in which an excerpt from the Epic of Manas was recited and typical Kyrgyz and Uzbek folk songs and dances were performed.
After the ceremony, Pirimkul Kadyrov's theater play “Mughal” was performed at the renovated Mughal Osh State Academic Uzbek Music and Drama Theatre.
