The Third International Theatre Festival of TURKSOY has come to an end

The Third International Theatre Festival of TURKSOY, held in Aktau, the Cultural Capital  of the Turkic World 2025, brought together leading theatre ensembles and artists from the Turkic World and ended with a magnificent closing ceremony.

 

The plays performed throughout the festival showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Turkic World and the finest examples of contemporary theatre art to the audience. At the closing ceremony, the following works were recognised for their excellence in different categories:

  • The search for new stage forms: Köroğlu (N. Janturin Mangistau Regional Music Drama Theatre – Aktau, Kazakhstan)
  • Topicality of the subject: Eighty Buckets of Air (Beşbakça Theatre – Beşbakça, Hungary)
  • Best acting duo: The Narrator and the Executioner (Bursa State Theatre – Türkiye)
  • Best stage interpretation of a historical subject: The Last Letter (T. Abdumomunov Kyrgyz National Academic Drama Theatre – Kyrgyzstan)
  • Careful preservation of folk memory: The Gallows (Şeki State Drama Theatre – Azerbaijan)
  • Best musical interpretation of a play: Kabil ile Habil (M. A. Mukimi Uzbek State Academic Music Theatre – Uzbekistan)
  • Best stage interpretation of national cultural tradition: Bayram Khan Turkmen (S. Turkmenbashy Balkan Eyalet State Theatre – Turkmenistan)

In the speech he delivered at the closing ceremony, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev emphasised that the festival gathers important theatres and artists from the Turkic World every year and said: “Our main goal is to build a common language for theatre in the Turkic world and to promote directors, actors and plays from different countries. We will highlight our similartities while preserving our differences; theatre serves as an important bridge in this regard. We are already excited about next year's festival."

 

Secretary General Raev further stated that the participation of important theatre figures such as Asanalı Aşımov, the doyen of Kazakh theatre, and Barzu Abdurazzakov, the renowned theatre director from Tajikistan, in the festival has strengthened Turkic World theatre, and expressed his gratitude to the Mangystau administration, the cultural figures of Aktau, and the management of the N. Janturin Mangistau Regional Music Drama Theatre, which hosted the event, and all its staff.

 

The festival, which showcased the excitement of theatre art in Aktau, once again highlighted strong steps being taken towards the transmission of the common cultural heritage of the Turkic World to future generations.
