The Third International Theatre Festival of TURKSOY continues to introduce the finest theatre works of the Turkic World to art lovers. One of the festival's most notable plays was the drama production ‘Akırkı Kat’ (The Last Letter) from Kyrgyzstan.

Dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Kyrgyz Kara Autonomous Region and the 120th anniversary of the birthday of Nagima Aytmatova, the spouse of the statesman Törekul Aytmatov, the play depicted difficult times experienced by Törekul Aytmatov, father of the famous auhor Chngis Aitmatov in the 1920s and 1930s, the hardships endured by his family, and his childhood years as he  grew up as the ‘son of an enemy of the people’.

The production, featuring a rich stage setting, impressive lighting and costume designs,

carefully selected music and masterful acting, took the audience onto an emotional journey.

Directed by Ulanmırza Karıpbayev, the play featured Cenişbek Samanov, Gülayım Kanimetova, Gülnara Satarova, Amangeldi Şerikkul uulu, Kanbolot Atakan uulu, Egemberdi Bekboliev, Kamçıbek Sarıbaev, Askat Suleymanov, Kaliça Seydealieva, Tilek Cumagaziev, Anara Taalaybek kızı, Asılbek Özübekov, and Nurlan Salidinov.

The play explored the themes of Törekul Aytmatov's life under political pressure, family ties, faith and resistance, while also giving an insight into the historical background of the period to the audience which was particularly impressed by the emotional depth of scenes depicting Chingis Aitmatov's childhood and youth.

Performed as part of the festival, ‘Akırkı Kat’ once again demonstrated the strength and emotional richness of the theatrical heritage of the Turkic World, both in terms of its content and its artistic presentation.
