The International Peace and Trust Forum ended with great success in Ashgabat
The International Peace and Trust Forum held under the motto “Unity in Purpose for a Sustainable Future” ended with great success in Ashgabat. Organized within the framework of the 30th anniversary of the status of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan, the International Neutrality Day and the International Year of Peace and Security 2025 proclaimed by the UN, the forum which gathered world leaders gave a strong impetus to global dialogue and cooperation.
In his opening speech, the President of Turkmenistan who hosted the forum, stressed that neutrality is not merely a status but an active strategy for peace and security. The event, organised under the leadership of President Berdimuhamedov, served as a concrete example of the international community's appreciation for Turkmenistan's peace-loving policies.
The forum gathered the President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mesud Pezeşkiyan, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov, and the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze. The President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping also sent a congratulatory message.
One of the most meaningful moments of the forum was when the leaders laid wreaths at the Neutrality Monument, which has become an iconic symbol of the city, and took a group photo. This ceremony powerfully conveyed Turkmenistan's message of peace and harmony to the whole world.
Recently renovated and specially prepared for the 30th anniversary celebrations, the Neutrality Monument stands 95 metres tall (symbolising the year 1995) and features traditional Turkmen patterns. The monument, with its three-legged structure representing the family hearth, unity and the homeland, has become the city's new visual landmark at the foot of the Kopetdag Mountains. The forum leaders' visit to this monument once again demonstrated their support for Turkmenistan's vision of peace, humanism and stability.
During the general sessions, the leaders described Turkmenistan's 30 years of neutrality as an exemplary model and emphasised the importance of preventive diplomacy.
Mr. Sultan Raev, Secretary General of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) who also participated in the forum highlighting the role of cultural diplomacy delivered the following message at the closing session thereof.
‘Cultural Ties Make Peace Lasting’
Secretary General Raev who stated that Turkmenistan's policy of neutrality, combined with its cultural heritage, has created a universal model of peace further said: ‘Diplomacy becomes lasting when it is supported by culture. Peace begins in the heart, and culture is the strongest bridge that unites peoples. Music, literature and our shared history are the most solid foundation to transmit the climate of trust to future generations’ and congratulated the kindred Turkmen people and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, praising Turkmenistan's visionary approach as a reflection of the shared wealth of the Turkic World.
The forum ended with the adoption of the Ashgabat Declaration featuring strong messages confirming the commitment to global peace, dialogue and sustainable development.
