The Hungarian version of Secretary General Sultan Raev's Work “The Great Catastrophe” was presented in Lakitelek

The Hungarian translation of the work “The Great Catastrophe” (Özönvíz – Három kisregény), written by TURKSOY  Secretary General and author Sultan Raev, was presented to readers in a promotional event held at the Hungarikum Liget in Lakitelek within the framework of the Day of Hungarian Culture. Published by Antológia Kiadó in 2026, this work is considered as an important step in introducing Raev's literary world to Hungarian readers.

Mr. József Goretity who translated Raev's work  entitled  “The Great Catastrophe” into Hungarian was also present at the promotional ceremony and shared his views on the novel with participants.

The opening speech of the promotional event was delivered by Mr. Sándor Lezsák, the Vice President of the Hungarian National Parliament. Mr. Lezsák who stressed that Sultan Raev's works are not only literary narratives but also powerful texts that reflect the historical memory and human values of the Turkic World further noted that the cultural ties between Hungary and the Turkic World have been further strengthened through literature.

The event was also attended by Ambassador Hendrich Balázs, the Executive Director of the Representation Office of the Organization of Turkic States in Hungary and Ambassador Zsolt Csutora, the Chief of Staff to the Government Commissioner of the Hungarian Ministry of Culture and Innovation  as well as scholars, authors, readers, intellectuals and students from various countries studying at the Neumann János University.

Author Sultan Raev came together with readers

During the meeting held as part of the promotional meeting, Mr. Sultan Raev came together with his readers and shared his thoughts on the connection he established with literature during his childhood, his journey as an author and the themes he addresses in his works.

Throughout the discussion, questions were asked about Raev's journey from journalism to writing, the common cultural heritage of the Turkic World, the Manas Epic, Chingis Aitmatov's importance in his perception of the world and the role of literature in the search for truth.

While the presentation of Raev’s work raised great interest among young people, Mr. Raev himself emphasized the unifying power of intercultural dialogue and literature. 

At the end of the event, Mr. Raev signed copies of his book “The Great Catastrophe” and held a conversation with the participants.
