The Fifth Korkut Ata Film Festival of the Turkic World came to an end in Aktau
The Fifth Korkut Ata Film Festival of the Turkic World ended with a closing and awards’ ceremony held in Aktau, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2025.
The festival gathered nearly 200 producers, directors, screenwriters, actors, and industry representatives, giving guests the opportunity to discover Aktau, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World through film screenings, cultural tours, and various meetings.
The festival also featured the Cinema Summit of the Turkic World held with the participation of cinema directors from TURKSOY member countries. At the summit, the host “Kazakfilm” and relevant institutions rom TURKSOY member countries in the field of cinema signed memoranda of understanding aimed at the deepening of mutual cooperation carried out under the auspices of TURKSOY as well as at the promotion of common values and historical heritage through the art of cinema. The memoranda of understanding further aim at framework cooperation activities in areas such as the promotion of co-productions, training programmes, workshops and seminars, translation and dubbing, the sharing of expertise, experience and technology, joint cinema projects, distribution and participation in international festivals.
International Jury Awards Feature Films and Documentaries
This year's festival jury, chaired by Aydın Sakhman from Kazakhstan, was composed of Mr. Sahysalyh Bayramov (Turkmenistan), Mrs. Nazira Mukusheva (Kazakhstan), Mrs. Mehriban Zeki (Azerbaijan), Mr. Umid Iskandarov (Uzbekistan), Mr. Argen Adyl Uluu (Kyrgyzstan), Mr. Ensar Altay (Türkiye), Mr. Merzadig Agazadeh (Azerbaijan), Mr. Ömer Faruk Aksoy (Türkiye), Mr. Hasan Kydyraliev (Kyrgyzstan), Mr. Dovletgeldy Khudaberdiyev (Turkmenistan) and Mrs. Gulnara Abdurakhmanova (Uzbekistan).
After its deliberations, the jury selected thirteen works worthy of awards, with five being in the documentary category and eight being in the of feature film category. Special Awards of TURKSOY were also handed over to their winners at the festival.
Secretary General Sultan Raev: ‘We must ensure that our films travel from city to city; we must produce more together.’
In his statement he delivered after the closing ceremony, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev said that the festival strengthened the common memory and the will to produce, adding that: "We are one big family; we must ensure that our films travel from city to city, and we must produce more together. Like the crane, the symbol of the festival, the higher we flap our wings together, the higher we will fly. I hope that the friendships established in Aktau will turn into joint plans on sets and new stories in script rooms."
