Talks on cultural cooperation held by Secretary General Raev in Almaty

Mr. Sultan Raev, the Secretary General of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), held high-level talks in Almaty, the city where the organisation’s foundations were laid and which it shares deep-rooted historical ties with. Meeting with Mr. Abzal Nukenov, the Deputy Mayor of Almaty, Secretary General Raev discussed comprehensive projects designed to accelerate the cultural integration of the Turkic World.

In the highly productive meeting, both parties once again stressed the  unshakeable bond of TURKSOY with Almaty, spanning more than a quarter of a century. Established in the former capital of Kazakhstan in 1993 with the support of the heads of state of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Türkiye and Turkmenistan, TURKSOY is celebrating its 33rd anniversary as a meeting point of kindred peoples united through language, culture and spirit this year. It was further agreed in the meeting that the strong cultural bridge built between this first international organisation of the Turkic World and the city of Almaty will be further strengthened through new initiatives.

While both parties reviewed programmes aimed at giving an impetus to traditional cooperation, they also discussed strategic steps for 2027 in particular. In this context, the idea of organising an international forum under the motto ‘21st-Century Museum Activities and New Approaches: Trends in the Age of Innovation, Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence’ in Almaty in 2027 became the main agenda item.

Also noting that Almaty has one of the strongest museum infrastructures in the Turkic World and that the museum association actively participates in innovation processes, both parties further stressed that this forum will be a unique opportunity for an in-depth exploration of the concepts of modern metropoles and cultural heritage.

Almaty will become a hub for traditional culture

In the meeting, the parties also drew attention to the importance of creative approaches in enhancing the capacity of Almaty in terms of tourism.

In this respect, the following key objectives were set to transform the city into a cultural hub:

  • -Revitalisation of traditional arts,
  • -Creation of a sustainable foundation for applied culture and the arts,
  • -Promotion and support of national craftsmanship.
  •

Another highlight of the meeting was the annoucement of the launching of a new project on “Petroglyphs of the Turkic World” by Secretary General Raev who shared details on this initiative which TURKSOY plans to implement in the near future.
