Sultan Raev: ‘February 6th is our shared sorrow and shared memory’

Mr. Sultan Raev, the Secretary General of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture TURKSOY, issued a message on the anniversary of the devastating earthquakes that struck Türkiye on February 6th, 2023.

In his message, Secretary General Raev emphasised that the February 6th earthquakes were not only Türkiye's shared sorrow but that of the entire Turkic World, stating that: “February 6th is a date of sorrow which will never fade from our memories. On that day, it was not only buildings which collapsed, but also the hearts of millions of people which were broken. 

However, this date will also be remembered as a day of solidarity, when the Turkic World came together in the spirit of brotherhood.”

Secretary General Raev noted that this sensitivity, demonstrated by a wide range of people from artists to volunteers, clearly revealed the common conscience and shared destiny of the Turkic World.

Concluding his message on an emotional note, Secretary General Raev said: "I hereby pay tribute to the memory of  our brothers and sisters who lost their lives and I wish patience and strength to those left behind. Our pain is shared, our grief is one and the same. The Turkic World stands with Türkiye today, as it did yesterday, and this solidarity will never be forgotten."
