Statue of Jolon Mamytov inaugurated in Osh: Young people of the Turkic World commemorated the great poet
The statue of Jolon Mamytov, the famous poet and author who left a great heritage behindin Kyrgyz culture and literature was unveiled in an impressive ceremony held in Osh on May 28th, 2025. The statue, placed in the Ak-Tilek district of Osh, where the poet was born and raised, holds significance not only for Kyrgyz literature but for the entire Turkic World.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Secretary of State of the Kyrgyz Republic Marat Imankulov, Sultan Raev, the Secretary General of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), officials from the Osh Regional Administration and Municipality, representatives of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Culture, leaders of the Kyrgyz Writers' Union, and Jolon Mamytov's family and close friends. In addition, authors, scholars and young poets from various countries of the Turkic World also took part in the event.
The opening ceremony was held on the same day in Osh as part of the "Jolon Mamytov’s Green World: Turkic World Young Poets' Gathring" held in Osh on the same day. Within this framework, young poets and writers' union presidents from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan,
Uzbekistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan and Tatarstan came together to commemorate and share the literary legacy of Jolon Mamytov. During the event, young poets recited works inspired by Mamytov 's poetry and presented special performances highlighting their shared cultural ties.
Officials speaking at the ceremony emphasised that Jolon Mamytov was not only a common value of the Kyrgyz people but also of the entire Turkic world, and drew attention to the importance of passing on his works to new generations in terms of cultural memory.
Sultan Raev: ‘Mamytov's poetry has become the common voice of the Turkic World’
Sultan Raev, Secretary General of the International Organisation for Turkic Culture TURKSOY, stated in his speech at the ceremony that Jolon Mamytov had established a universal language of expression in his poetry that reflected the common emotions of Turkic peoples, their love for nature, and the depths of the human soul. in his speech, Secretary General Raev said: "Jolon Mamytov is not only a poet of Kyrgyz literature but also a poet of the entire Turkic World. In his poems, he has brought together the hearts of Turkic peoples in the same verse, elegantly describing nature, humanity, and spirituality. The statue we are unveiling today not only preserves the memory of an artist, but is also a tangible expression of our deep respect for our shared literary heritage."
Mr. Raev stated that TURKSOY attaches great importance to introducing Mamytov's works to younger generations, emphasising that his name will continue to live on in the Turkic world.
The unveiling of the statue was seen not only as an honour for an artist but also as a symbol strengthening the common cultural ties of Turkic peoples. Following the ceremony, participants visited an exhibition of Mamytov's poems, examined his books, and participated in various commemorative events.
The unveiling of Jolon Mamytov’s statue raised great interest in Kyrgyzstan and the Turkic World. This event, seen as an important step in keeping literary heritage alive in a tangible form, also served as an opportunity for young people from the Turkic World to come together around their shared culture.
