Special message issued by the President of Kazakhstan on the occasion of the International Symposium marking the 100th anniversary of the First Turkology Congress of Baku

In his message, President Tokayev wrote:

Distinguished Guests!

I extend my warmest congratulations to you on the occasion of the opening of the international symposium organized to mark the 100th anniversary of the First Baku Turkology Congress!

This gathering holds immense historical significance for all Turkic peoples.

Exactly a century ago, this distinguished gathering held in the capital of Azerbaijan brought together exceptional figures and esteemed scholars from sister nations. At that congress, crucial issues regarding the spiritual heritage, language, and literature of the brotherly peoples sharing a common origin were thoroughly discussed. As is well known, the primary objective of the Congress was to preserve the unique identity of the Turkic World and to build a common cultural space.

In today’s era, as the world is undergoing profound changes, strengthening the unity of our nations and enhancing our integration holds special importance. This is a legacy from our ancestors and a historical lesson offered to us by our past.

For this reason, we attach great importance not only to commercial and economic cooperation between our states but also to strengthening cultural and human ties. Today’s symposium is the most concrete manifestation of this.

I am fully confident that this meeting will bring forth profound ideas and visionary thoughts that will further expand the horizons of Turkology.

Currently, great care is being taken regarding all matters related to Turkology in Kazakhstan. In particular, a decision has been made to construct the “Center for Turkic Civilization” in the city of Turkistan, a place of immense sacred significance for Turkic states. I personally announced this highly significant decision at the recent summit of Turkic states held in this very city and widely shared this auspicious project with the public. Together with the leaders of the Turkic states, we also held the groundbreaking ceremony for this unique center. I invite the governments and civil society organizations of all Turkic states to contribute to and actively participate in this critically important project. This step will serve as the most beautiful symbol of the sincere solidarity and cooperation of the Turkic community.
