Special Commemorative Event dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide
A special event was held cooperation of the Ankara University of Social Sciences in with the Tuzla University to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide, in which over 8,000 Bosnian people were systematically killed in 1995.
In the speech he delivered at the opening ceremony of the event, Mr. Sayit Yusuf, the Deputy Secretary General of TURKSOY stressed that the human tragedy of Srebrenica is not only the shared sorrow of the Bosnian people but of all humanity and said: “Srebrenica is the voice of the oppressed, it is a test faced by humanity. Remembering this genocide is a moral responsibility to build the future.”
Deputy Secretary General Yusuf further stated that TURKSOY supports all scientific, artistic, and cultural efforts aimed at keeping historical memory alive and added: “Cultural solidarity is one of the most enduring paths to justice. At TURKSOY, we strive to keep alive our common culture as well as our common conscience."
The commemorative event also featured a panel discussion entitled ’Witnesses of the Bosnian Genocide in Srebrenica" during which witnesses and scholars who experienced the genocide discussed the tragedy from various perspectives. A special photography exhibition was also inaugurated as part of the event.
