Secretary-General Raev attended the official opening of the 10th Global Forum of the UNAOC
TURKSOY Secretary General attended the official opening ceremony of the ‘10th Global Forum of the UNAOC ’ hosted by the Republic of Portugal and held in the city of Cascais on November 25th-27th, 2024. The forum, which aims to promote cultural dialogue and international cooperation, brought together many high-level representatives from around the world.
At the opening ceremony of the forum, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized the importance of dialogue among civilizations in solving global challenges and said: ‘We cannot find solutions to common challenges without understanding each other.’
Miguel Ángel Moratinos, the High Representative of the United Nations for the Alliance of Civilisations, emphasised the importance of inclusive policies, while King Felipe VI of Spain pointed out that cultural diversity is an important asset for peace and cooperation. The President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, stated that Portugal has historically played the role of a bridge between cultures and civilisations and expressed his satisfaction that the forum would contribute to this mission.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Hakan Fidan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkiye, emphasized the importance of cultural diplomacy in the establishment of global peace and said: ‘Cultural dialogue is one of the cornerstones for sustainable peace and understanding. The contribution of the Alliance of Civilisations in this context is invaluable’.
Besides TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, the event was attended by prominent figures such as Maulen Ashimbayev, the President of the Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Adil Kerimli, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Bakhromjon Aloev, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
With the high-level organisation of its host country, the Portuguese Republic, the forum highlighted the importance of international cooperation and cultural solidarity.
Following the official opening, the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Paulo Rangel hosted a luncheon in honour of the heads of delegations. TURKSOY Secretary General attended this special invitation and exchanged views with international partners during the event.
While the Forum goes on with various panels and sessions, the role of TURKSOY in the field of cultural diplomacy is expected to be highlighted.
