Second International Workshop on Women in the Turkic World held in Baku

The Second International Workshop on Women in the Turkic World, organised under the coordination of the Umay Ana Association of Women of the Turkic World Union and hosted by the Caspian University, was held in Baku on  October 2nd-3rd, 2025.

The workshop was organised with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye, the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), the World Union of Ahiska Turks (DATUB), the Association of Cypriot Turkish Women Entrepreneurs (GIKAD), the Association of Turkish Women Academics (TURKKAB), the Istanbul Gedik University, and the Friendship Association of Azerbaijan in Istanbul.

The opening session began with a speech by Mrs.  Mehbare Şahin who took the floor on behalf of TURKSOY Secretary General Mr. Sultan Raev and went on with speeches by Prof. Dr. Mualla Uydu Yücel, the President of the Umay Ana Association of Women of the Turkic World Union and the President of Association of Turkish Women Academics; Mr. Fuad Uçar, the Secretary General of the World Union of Ahiska Turks; Mrs. Fidan Brina Jilta, the Member of Parliament for Kosovo; Mrs. Sevil Mikailova, Mrs. Sabina Salmanova and Dr. Tamam Caferova (Chair of TURKPA), Members of Parliament for the Republic of Azerbaijan; Marina Semenova, President of the Cultural Administration of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia (Moldova), Mr. Ufuk Turgane, the Representative of Azerbaijan in the TRNC, and H.E. Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün, the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye who addressed the participants.

The workshop consisted of five sessions held under the headings ‘Azerbaijan in the Historical Process’, ‘Pioneering Women in Literature and the Press in the Turkic World’, ‘Pioneering Women in Science and Academia’, ‘Pioneering Women in Social Life’ and ‘Pioneering Women in Management and Entrepreneurship’. During the workshop, pioneering and entrepreneurial women from 15 different countries and communities of the Turkic World shared their experiences in the fields of academic research, science, literature, press, social life and entrepreneurship.

Participants expressed their gratitude to TURKSOY Secretary General Mr Sultan Raev for his support regarding this initiative, which offers a precious opportunity for women of the Turkic World to come together around common values and projects.
