Second Congress on Strategic Research in the Turkic World held in Ankara
The 2nd Congress on Strategic Research in the Turkic World, which addresses strategic cooperation areas of the Turkic World, began on May 16th, 2025 at the Hacı Bayram Veli University in Ankara.
Organised in cooperation with the Turkic World Yörük Turkmen Assocciation and the Turkic Studies Application and Research Centre of the AHBVU, the congress deals with ‘Strategic Cooperation Opportunities Among Turkic States and Communities.’ The congress, which is attended by numerous scholars and experts from the Turkic World, serves as an important platform for the exchange of ideas and institutional cooperation.
Sayit Yusuf: We Will Work in Cooperation as If Institutions of a Single Nation Were a Single State
Speaking at the opening panel of the congress, Sayit Yusuf, Deputy Secretary General of TURKSOY, recalled that he had held various public positions related to the Turkic World since the 1990s and emphasised that serving in this field was a privilege and a blessing for him.
‘I have been devoted to the Turkic World since my childhood; working in this field today is a great honour for me,’ said Yusuf, adding that he had witnessed first-hand the development of relations between Turkey and the Turkic Republics.
Mr. Yusuf also drew attention to the importance of institutionalised cooperation established after 1992, saying: ‘I am one of those who believe that we need to work harder with my friends, who are aware that this process carries serious responsibility and weight, and who think that if such an opportunity arises, we must do our utmost to shoulder this burden.’
The Power of Institutional Diplomacy: ‘Unity in Language is the Foundation of Cooperation’
Drawing attention to the effective projects carried out in the field by institutions such as TIKA, YTB, TDT and TEEE, Mr. Yusuf pointed out that these structures must come together to produce a comprehensive impact and said: "We will make the organisational structures of a single nation work as a single state. We have taken our cooperation efforts to new heights with organisations established after TÜRKSOY, our first international organisation. We need to increase strategic coordination between these structures by acting with a common mind and a common vision."
Mr. Yusuf stated that public diplomacy activities carried out by TURKSOY and similar institutions have expanded the international visibility and sphere of influence of the Turkic World and said: “The principle of “unity in language, thought and action” is not just a wish for us; it is a strategy. The foundation of this process is linguistic unity” and emphasized that a common language is not only decisive for communication but also for building a common memory and a common future.
The congress was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the AK Party, the Head of Relations with Turkic States and MP from Ankara Prof. Dr. Kürşat Zorlu, the Deputy Rector of the AHBVU Prof. Dr. Kürşat Göktürk, the Deputy Chairman of the YTB Murat Kazancı, the Deputy Chairman of TIKA Dr. Mahmut Çevik, the President of the Yörük Turkmen Association of the Turkic World Mr. Irfan Tatlıoğlu along with many scholars and experts.
