A collection of selected works of ‘Sayakbay Karalayev’ published in commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the birthday of the famous Kyrgyz author was presented in an event held in TURKSOY Headquarters.
The event, organised by TURKSOY and the National Manas Academy of the Kyrgyz Republic, was attended by TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, heads of international organisations, teachers, students and storytellers.
The meeting started with a visit of the thematic photography exhibition at the entrance of TURKSOY Headquarters. A video about Karalaev was shown on the third floor. The People's Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic Risbay Iskakov recited an excerpt from the ‘Manas’ epic.
Secretary General Raev who delivered the opening speech of the event also gave some information about the life and works of the author and said: “The Manas epic is of particular importance for the Kyrgyz people. The word ‘Manas’ and the word ‘Kyrgyz’ are like twins. They are inseparable.”
The event went on with the presentation of the collection of works by ‘Sayakbay Karalaev’ during which scholars presented their papers on the life and work of this legendary storyteller and touched upon his connection with Chingiz Aitmatov, also noting that the famous author's work entitled ‘Mangurt’ was inspired by one of Karalaev's poems.
