Preparations under way for Aktau, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2025
On April 2nd, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev came together in bilateral meetings with Mr. Nurlan Nogaev, the Governor of the Mangystau Province and Mr. Ulikbek Tnaliev, the Governor of Aktau. During the meeting, which took place in a warm atmosphere, the importance of joint activities between Kazakhstan and TURKSOY was underlined and a goodwill decision was made to strengthen the cooperation on activities and events to be held in Aktau, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2025.
In the meeting, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev noted that the declaration of Aktau as the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2025 is no coincidence given the fact that the city is home to many historical monuments which can be considered as a common cultural treasure of the Turkic World.
To underline the commitment of TURKSOY in this regard, Secretary General Raev said: "The Province of Mangystau province is a unique region with historical monuments. Previously, the Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World in Kazakhstan were Astana and Turkistan. I have no doubt that Aktau will proudly fly the flag of the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World for a whole year. Through Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World, the global community gets acquainted with Turkic traditions which actually unite kindred Turkic peoples. At TURKSOY, our task is to promote and introduce the common Turkic culture to the world" .
Mr. Nurlan Nogaev, the Governor of the Mangystau Province, expressed his honour to host the guests and events to be held within the framework of the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World in the region and said: “This event is not limited to Aktau, it is a worldwide event that makes it possible to position ourselves as Turkic-speaking countries on a global scale. We are ready to host our guests and show them the hospitality and cultural heritage of our ancestors while contributing to the strengthening of ties among our peoples”.
The Governor of Aktau Ulikbek Tnaliev who also took the floor at the event expressed his pleasure as to the declaration of Aktau as the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2025 by the Permanent Council of TURKSOY in Shusha, Azerbaijan, and said: "Since the date of the decision, we have started our preparations to fly the flag of the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World with various cultural and sports events including classical and folk music concerts, photography and painting exhibitions, theatre festivals, music and dance performances as well as various activities covering the culture and art of the entire Turkic World. We have also planned international and national sports events, workshops and symposiums. Our aim is to introduce the rich cultural heritage of Turkic-speaking countries to the world and to ensure the worldwide promotion of the cooperation and friendship between our peoples. The declarations of Aktau as Cultural Capital of the Turkic World in 2025 will contribute to the development of tourism in our city, hence also fostering its economic growth.
The declaration of Aktau as the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World for 2025 is a unique opportunity for the development of tourism and economic in our city to gain a new momentum. On the other hand, we would be very pleased if peoples of the Turkic World visit Aktau and get acquainted with the cultural and historical richness of our city."
In the meeting where more than 50 events planned to be held in the Mangystau region were presented, officials worked on the calendar of events foreseen to be carried out in Aktau in 2025. Secretary General Raev said that the work to finalise the calendar of events will further continue, and added that a working group has been established to prepare the opening event of Aktau, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2025 as well as the calendar of events to take place therein throughout the year.
