Powerful interpretation of Kazakh literature at the Theatre Festival of TURKSOY: “Parasat Maydanı”

The Third International Theatre Festival of TURKSOY further brings together distinguished theatre ensembles from the Turkic World. One of the festival's most notable performances was the theatre play entitled ‘Parasat Maydanı’ (Wisdom Square / Knowledge Square) and featuring a psychology plot  performed by the Kazakh National Theatre of Musical Drama under the direction of Kalibek Kuanishbayev.

A masterpiece adapted from Kazakh literature

The play adapted from the works ‘On Kol’ (Right Hand) and ‘Parasat Maydanı’ by Tölen Abdik, a classic name in Kazakh literature focuses on the inner world of man, his spiritual conflicts and the loss of moral values in society, taking the audience onto a journey of deep thought.

The play is directed by Gülsina Mirgaliyeva, who is also the artistic director of the theatre and a State Artist of Kazakhstan. The costume design is by Şınar Elembayeva, also a State Artist of Kazakhstan. The production was realized with the contributions of experts in their fields, such as choreographer Karina Jirenbayeva, lighting designer Azamat Bekbembetov, and sound director Lazzat Kistıkbayeva. The play's consultant was Kamila Jirenbayeva, a psychiatrist.

Strong cast

The strong cast of ‘Parasat Maydanı’ received full marks from the audience. The leading roles were performed by master actors Nurken Öteul and Margulan Namenov, both holders of the title of State Artist of Kazakhstan. The play also featured performances by valuable artists such as Nursultan Esen (Doctor), Dinara Yegubayeva (Alma), Janar Kasımova (Mother), and State Artist of Kazakhstan Gulbarshyn Kylychbay, who added colour to the performance.

The play tells the story of an individual who becomes a victim of loneliness and contradictions, engaging in an internal struggle against the rigid rules and injustices of society. Through the theatre's powerful narrative language, the audience is brought to perceive the fine line between good and evil, and the conflict between spiritual values and the material world.
