Poems by Mehmet Akif Ersoy in Azerbaijani Turkic language
A book of selected poems by the Poet of Independence Mehmet Akif Ersoy, translated into Azerbaijani Turkish for the first time by TURKSOY to commemorate the 150th anniversary of his birth, was presented at the National Library of Azerbaijan.
150th anniversary of his birth The event was hosted by Kerim Tahirov, Director of the National Library of Azerbaijan within the framework of the "2023 Mehmet Akif Ersoy Commemoration Year" activities announced by TURKSOY on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of his birth, and was attended by TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, Deputy Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan Ferit Jafarov, President of the Writers' Union of Azerbaijan Anar Rzayev, President of the Composers' Union Firengiz Alizade, State Artist actor Rasim Balayev, State Artist conductor Aghaverdi Pashayev, as well as distinguished representatives of Azerbaijan's literature, theater, cinema, music and other fields and literature lovers attended the event.
Speaking at the launch of the book "Selected Poems", TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev emphasized that every year they try to keep alive our genius people of art who enriched the Turkic culture and contributed to the world cultural treasury and the cultural heritage they left us and bring them together with art lovers through various events and reminded that 2023 was declared "Year of Mehmet Akif Ersoy" in the Turkic World upon decision of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY .
Noting that the poems of the Poet of Independence Mehmet Akif Ersoy were translated into Azerbaijani Turkish for the first time, Raev said: "There are poets who leave deep traces in the history, culture and soul of a nation; these poets shape their thoughts and leave works that transcend time. Mehmet Akif Ersoy, whom we commemorate with respect and longing, bowing before his beloved soul, is one of the great poets of Turkish literature. Mehmet Akif Ersoy is a poet who has taken his distinguished place among the national poets not only of Turkey but also of the Turkic World.
With the decision of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY to declare the year 2023 as the Year of Mehmet Akif Ersoy in the Turkic World in honor of the 150th anniversary of his birthday, we are happy to announce that the poet's selected poems have been translated and published for the first time in Azerbaijani Turkic language by TURKSOY.
This book features a selection of magnificent poems from the pen of Mehmet Akif Ersoy. This work, which contains the rich language, deep thoughts and emotional depth of the poet, is also an important document reflecting the history, culture and spirit of the Turkish nation. Ersoy left a great impact not only as a poet but also as a man of thought. His poems are not only highly aesthetic in stylistic terms, but also carry important messages about humanity."
