The play “Babur. Longing…” (Bobur. Sog’inch…) written by Usmon Azim was performed at the International Theatre Festival of TURKSOY held in the city of Andijan, Uzbekistan.
Focusing on the life of Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur, one of the historical figures of the Uzbek people, the play featured Zafarbek Sayburhanov in the lead role of Babur while Malika Satimova portrayed the character of Mohimbegim. The extensive cast of the performance also included names such as Ilhomcan Musayev and Murat Satimov.
Dealing with Babur’s boundless love for his homeland, the play depicting Babur’s human virtues through striking historical events also conveyed his roles as a ruler and poet, but also his identities as a geographer, historian, naturalist and philosopher to the audience. His forgiveness of Melike Baydu—the mother of his enemy, Ibrahim Lûdî—despite the fact that she poisoned him, out of respect for her as a mother, and his self-sacrifice to save the life of his heir, Hümayun Mirza, during the latter’s serious illness, are portrayed in a dramatic manner.
Reflecting the profound longing of a great statesman for his homeland, the play garnered great acclaim from festival participants for its educational and instructive nature conveying the importance of patriotism to future generations.
